Player Bio

In an age where Spiderman, Superman, and Batman are hailed as superheroes, the cricketing world sees Rinku Singh as no less.

Coming from a humble background, Rinku Singh’s life has not been easy. Son of an LPG deliveryman and brother of an autorickshaw driver, Rinku has had his fair share of struggles in his young days to reach this stage. Thus, Rinku Singh’s cricketing journey is a reminder that relentless hard work and self-belief can turn dreams into reality.

Rinku Singh’s Background and Early Career

Born on 12 October 1997, Rinku Singh is the third of five siblings and hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. Due to adversity, Singh and his family lived in a two-room quarter inside a gas cylinder warehouse, an accommodation provided by his father's employers.

Considering his family’s poor financial condition, in 2015-16, Rinku worked as a domestic worker at a coaching centre, where he cleaned and mopped. At the time, he was playing for the UP Under-19 side, so he didn't continue the work because his dreams were much bigger.

Rinku Singh’s Domestic Career

In 2013, Rinku Singh was selected for UP's Under-16 team, and a couple of years later, he was also picked for UP's Under-19 team for his aggressive batting. Known to be a hard hitter of the cricket ball, the southpaw notched up a swashbuckling 31-ball 95 in one of the games in a camp held by the Mumbai Indians in the same year.

Another notable performance by Rinku Singh came during Uttar Pradesh's Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 encounter, where he played a sweltering knock of 44-ball 91* against Tripura.

Notably, on 30 May 2019, Singh was suspended for three months by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after he participated in an “unauthorised” T20 Tournament in Abu Dhabi without prior permission to play.

In the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Rinku Singh has underlined his red-ball prowess as well as his adaptability from T20 cricket to the grind of multi-day cricket with back-to-back centuries in consecutive matches. Both his centuries, 165 not out against Andhra and a career-best 176 against Tamil Nadu, came in difficult situations.

Rinku Singh’s IPL Career

The year 2017 marked Rinku's entry into the IPL with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). However, his true rise to prominence came in 2018, when the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for a significantly higher price tag.

The 2022 IPL season proved to be a turning point for Rinku. He finally earned a longer run in the playing XI, showcasing his talent. His spirited show began when his first noteworthy performance in the IPL helped KKR beat the Rajasthan Royals. Some labelled it a quirk of fate. To their surprise, Rinku pulled another rabbit out of his hat, although his 15-ball 40 ended up in a losing cause in KKR's last league match versus Lucknow Super Giants.

This success cemented his place in the middle order, and in the 2023 season, he emerged as a crucial finisher.

The Aligarh-born did not take much time to take off in 2023 either. His 46-run knock against Royal Challengers Bangalore was only a precursor to the enigma that lit up IPL 2023.

On 9 April 2023, Rinku achieved a record-breaking feat against the Gujarat Titans, scoring five sixes in the final over. Riding on the consecutive maximum to Yash Dayal, KKR successfully chased down 29 runs, the highest-ever chase in the last over in the IPL tournament's history.

Rinku Singh’s T20I Career

Like most Indian cricketers, Rinku's ultimate goal, as often is the case, was to don the national jersey. His dream eventually turned into reality.

On 18 August 2023, Singh made his T20I debut against Ireland. In the next game, he scored a quick 38 before being dismissed by the second last ball of the innings. On 12 December 2023, during India’s tour to South Africa, he scored his first T20I half-century with a score of 68*.

Rinku Singh’s most notable knock came on 17 January, against Afghanistan, stitching a staggering 190* run partnership with Rohit Sharma, which is India's second-highest stand in T20I and the highest partnership for the 5th wicket in the world. Moreover, in May 2024, he was named a reserve player in India’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

In 2025, after warming the bench for six matches in a row, Rinku Singh got a chance to feature in the Asia Cup, and in the all-important final against Pakistan, he made his presence felt by scoring the winning runs.

Rinku Singh’s ODI Career

Rinku Singh made his ODI debut against South Africa on 19 December 2023. He scored 17 runs and took the wicket of Rassie van der Dussen. In the next game, he scored a match-winning knock against South Africa.

However, he is yet to show his vigour in longer formats at the highest stage.
