Player Bio

Praveen Dubey is a leg-spin bowling all-rounder who represents Karnataka in domestic cricket and Punjab Kings in the IPL. A right-handed batter and leg-break googly bowler, he built his reputation through T20 leagues before gradually entering longer formats.

Praveen Dubey’s Early Life and Background

Praveen Dubey was born on July 1, 1993, in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. His early cricket came through street matches and district tournaments before he gained attention in university competitions, including a rapid century that encouraged him to pursue the sport more seriously.

Seeking better opportunities, he moved to Bengaluru, where structured coaching and stronger competition helped refine his leg-spin and batting. The shift proved crucial, eventually leading to selection in Karnataka’s domestic setup despite him not following the traditional age-group pathway.

Praveen Dubey’s Domestic Career

Praveen Dubey’s First-Class debut came much later, on January 11, 2020, against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy at Rajkot. Despite entering red-ball cricket after years in the professional circuit, he adapted to a supporting spin option. The delayed debut reflected his unusual career path, moving from short-format specialist to multi-format contributor.

Dubey made his List A debut for Karnataka on December 14, 2015, against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Alur. By then, he had already drawn attention through strong performances in local T20 competitions.

Over time, he developed into a dependable middle-overs bowler, contributing to Karnataka’s successful campaigns — including a title-winning season where he played an important role by stepping in during the knockout stages.

Dubey’s rise began in the Karnataka Premier League, where he represented Hubli Tigers in 2015 and impressed with economical bowling and regular wickets. Those performances earned him recognition even before his state T20 debut.

Praveen Dubey’s IPL Career

Praveen Dubey’s IPL journey has been unconventional, beginning with recognition before experience. Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him in 2016 for INR 35 lakh even before he had played FC cricket, and retained him for the following season. Despite being part of the squad environment, he did not get a game and returned to domestic cricket to continue developing his skills.

After a few years, his opportunity finally arrived in 2020, when the Delhi Capitals brought him in as a replacement player. He made his IPL debut later that season and stayed with the franchise across multiple campaigns, largely used as a squad spinner who could fit tactical match situations when required.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the Punjab Kings acquired him and retained him again for 2026. In the current setup, he adds leg-spin variety and depth to the bowling attack, expected to operate as a supporting spin option while providing balance to the squad.
