Player Bio

Dewald Brevis is a young South African cricketer popularly known as 'Baby AB'. He's a right-handed batter and an occasional right-arm leg-spinner. Brevis can switch his game according to the situation. Some of the shots this voguish cricketer plays remind us of legend AB de Villiers, hence the nickname 'Baby AB'.

Brevis was signed by Northerns ahead of the 2021-22 domestic cricket season in South Africa. He made his T20 debut on October 8, 2021, for the South Africa U-19s in the 2021-22 season of the CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out tournament.

In November 2021, the Protea was named in South Africa's team for the 2022 season of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. He scored two centuries and three fifties during the tournament and was adjudged the 'Player of the Tournament'. The youngster amassed 506 runs, which is a record for the highest number of runs scored at an ICC U-19 event.

In CSA T20 2022-23, he smashed the record for the highest T20 score in South Africa, scoring a phenomenal 162 runs off just 57 balls. This also made him the youngest South African (19 years and 185 days old) to hit a T20 century.

Dewald Brevis T20I Career

On the back of powerful performances at the junior level, Dewald Brevis received his first international call-up on 14 August 2023, for the South African squad against Australia. However, had a disappointing start to his international career. Thus, failed to cement his position in the national team.

Brevis finally made his T20I comeback in August 2025, during the second T20I against Australia. He scored an unbeaten 125* off 56 balls and broke Faf du Plessis's record (119) of the highest individual score by a South African cricketer in T20Is. At just 22 years and 105 days old, Brevis also became the youngest South African cricketer to score a century in T20Is.

Dewald Brevis Test Career

Making his Test debut on June 28, 2025, against Zimbabwe, Dewald Brevis is yet to prove his mettle in the longest format of the game. He slammed a fitting half-century on debut in Bulawayo. 

Two Tests later in his career, Brevis smashed a spellbinding 54 on a turning track in Lahore, but in a losing cause.   

Dewald Brevis ODI Career

Dewald Brevis, known as "Baby AB," made his ODI debut against Australia on August 19, 2025.

Brevis scored his maiden ODI fifty on December 3, 2025, in the 2nd ODI against India, scoring a rapid 54 runs off 34 balls, including 5 big sixes.

Dewald Brevis IPL Career

In February 2022, Brevis was bought by the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for INR 3 crore, but his appearances were limited. The Mumbai-based franchise retained him for IPL 2024.

The 21-year-old was signed by another major IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, for INR 2.2 Crores for the TATA IPL 2025, replacing Gurjapneet Singh. Coming in the second half of the tournament, Dewald Brevis played 6 matches in the middle order, scoring 225 runs at a strike rate of 180.00.

For providing crucial, explosive knocks in the IPL, Dewald Brevis became the most expensive player in the SA20 auction after bagging 16.5 Million Rand. Thus, received a whopping 277.3% increase from IPL to SA20.
