Player Bio

Much before his international debut, Taskin Ahmed became a sensation in Bangladesh, thanks to a video that surfaced all over the internet. The video showcased his spell against England Under-19 in 2012. His raw pace and the ability to hit the deck hard impressed everyone, and the selectors started to fast-track him.

He is currently the second fastest Bangladeshi bowler, having clocked 148 kph after Rubel Hossain, who has clocked 149.5 kph.

Taskin was part of the Bangladesh team for the 2012 Under-19 World Cup. He was mighty impressive with the ball and was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. The following year, he was out of cricket due to injuries and had to undergo knee surgery, which kept him out until the end of 2013.

Selectors were impressed with his raw pace, and Ahmed made his much-awaited T20I debut against Australia in the ICC World T20 2014.

Three months down the line, Taskin made his ODI debut against the visiting Indian team, and the fast bowler had a dream debut, picking up his maiden five-wicket haul as he completely decimated the Indian top order. He finished the match with figures of 5 for 28. Despite his efforts, Bangladesh lost the match by 47 runs when Stuart Binny ran a havoc.

Impressive performances in the shorter formats earned him a place in Bangladesh’s World Cup squad for 2015. Taskin Ahmed was the star bowler for the Tigers, picking up 9 wickets in 6 matches. He picked up two crucial wickets in a must-win game against England, taking his side into the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

The player was an integral part of the ODI squad that defeated India at home in 2015. He was the most economical bowler for the Tigers in the calendar year and eventually earned his place in the 2016 Asia Cup. He was average in the tournament, registering 3 wickets in 5 matches, as Bangladesh lost to India in the finals.

Ahmed was picked in the Bangladesh squad for the 2016 World T20 in India. He played the preliminary matches, but the pacer was banned from bowling as his action was deemed illegal, and he was sent back home midway through the tournament.

After being in the ODI and T20I setup since 2014, Taskin finally got a chance to break into the Test squad in 2017. With minor changes to his action, he finally made his Test debut against New Zealand at Wellington.

In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, held in Australia, Taskin Ahmed was a standout performer for Bangladesh. Taskin achieved remarkable figures of 4 wickets for 25 runs against the Netherlands, including taking wickets with the first two balls of the innings. His efforts were crucial in securing a 9-run victory for Bangladesh, and he was named Player of the Match for this performance. He continued his impressive form by recording figures of 3 wickets for 19 runs, playing a significant role in Bangladesh's campaign during the tournament.

During the ACC Asia Cup 2023, Taskin Ahmed delivered several notable performances. On September 3, 2023, Taskin was instrumental in Bangladesh's 89-run victory over Afghanistan. He claimed 4 wickets for 44 runs in 8.3 overs, effectively dismantling the Afghanistan batting lineup. In a subsequent match, Taskin showcased his bowling prowess by taking 3 wickets for 62 runs.

March 2024 marked a strong return to form for Taskin Ahmed as he played a pivotal role in the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. Displaying remarkable consistency, he delivered back-to-back impactful spells that solidified his importance in Bangladesh’s bowling lineup.

Despite a lingering injury concern earlier in the year, Taskin's resilience and recovery were rewarded in May 2024, when he was named in Bangladesh’s squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The selection served as a strong vote of confidence from the team management, recognising his match-winning capabilities and leadership on the field.

In January 2025, during the Bangladesh Premier League, Taskin Ahmed delivered a historic performance for Dhaka Capitals against Durbar Rajshahi. He achieved a remarkable seven-wicket haul, recording figures of 7 wickets for 19 runs in his 4-over spell. This outstanding feat set a new record for the best bowling figures in BPL history, surpassing the previous record held by Mohammad Amir, who had taken six wickets for 17 runs.

In February 2025, Taskin Ahmed represented Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy. Despite the team's overall challenges in the tournament, Taskin's individual performances were noteworthy.

In March 2025, recognising his consistent performances and significant contributions to Bangladesh cricket, Taskin Ahmed was the only player placed in the Grade A+ category in the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) central contracts list for the year. This distinction reflects his status as a leading figure in Bangladesh cricket. Players in the Grade A+ category receive a monthly salary of BDT 1 million (approximately USD 8,200).
