Player Bio

Nqobani Mokoena is a talented right-arm fast-medium bowler known for his pace, aggression, and ability to extract bounce from the pitch. From a young age, Mokoena demonstrated a natural affinity for cricket, often practising in his backyard and emulating his fast-bowling heroes, such as Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn.

Mokoena’s cricket journey began with the Dolphins age-group teams, where he impressed coaches with his consistency and stamina. He has delivered several standout performances in provincial competitions, including key spells that have turned matches in his team’s favour. However, Mokoena is yet to make his debut in first-class cricket.

He made his List A debut while playing for the SA Emerging side in February 2025. However, his T20 debut came with the Dolphins during the CSA T20 Challenge in September 2024.

On the international youth stage, Mokoena represented South Africa in the 2024 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He made a significant impact in Youth Test matches and One-Day games, including a memorable five-wicket haul against England early this year that helped swing the game in South Africa’s favour. In May this year, Mokoena went on a tour to Bangladesh with the SA Emerging side to play unofficial youth ODI and Test matches.

The 2006-born cricketer's consistent domestic performances prompted the Dolphins to sign him on a rookie contract for the 2025-26 domestic season. However, there was more to happen this year as Mokoena was drafted into the Paarl Royals' squad for the SA20 2025-26 season.

With his pace, dedication, and growing experience, the Durban teenager is considered one of South Africa’s brightest young fast-bowling prospects, poised to make a strong impact in the years ahead.
