Having impressed for Australia at the U-19 level, a well-built quick bowler Gurinder Sandhu burst onto the domestic scene for New South Wales towards the end of the 2013-14 season. The tall fast bowler is the first player of Indian heritage to represent Australia in cricket at any level.
Born in Blacktown, a five-year-old Sandhu started playing the sport and used to challenge the kids to double his age. He later went on to play for the Fairfield-Liverpool club and then donned the Australian colours at the U-19 World Cup in 2012.
Although the Fairfield-Liverpool product found his groove during the Australian domestic scene in 2012-13 after earning a New South Wales rookie contract for the first time. By the end of his maiden season, the burly pacer roped Prime Minister's XI and Australia A’s caps, before winning the Steve Waugh Medal sneaking past Brad Haddin and Trent Copeland.
The youngster thundered around and troubled some of the best Australian batters at the domestic level, before earning his ODI cap in 2015. Sandhu had a theatrical entry to international, making his international debut against India. Sandhu went to play one more ODI before getting dropped.
Over the years, across all formats, Sandhu uses his height to extract impressive bounce and he can swing the ball both ways, which makes him a more than handful bowler for both NSW and Sydney Thunder.
