Player Bio

Born in Newport, Sophia Smale is a bowling all-rounder representing Wales and Western Storm in the English domestic setup. She also played Hockey for Wales in her early years.

Smale was introduced to the game of cricket by her grandfather, Malcolm Price, who is also a qualified coach.

The Newport-born made her domestic debut in the Women’s Twenty20 Cup for Wales against Warwickshire in 2021. In four appearances, the young gun contributed 47 runs and took a solitary wicket.

Soon, the talented all-rounder was named to the Western Storm Regional Academy Programme where she was only one of the 14 players to be chosen. In one of her innings against North West Thunder, the 17-year-old smashed 83 off 77 balls.

Smale represented the Storm team in the 2022 edition of the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. In the 2022 edition of the Women’s Hundred, she has joined as an injury replacement for Emma Jones in the Oval Invincible’s squad.

As of August 2022
