Player Bio

Born in September 2004 in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Josephine “Josie” Paige Groves plays primarily as a leg-spin bowler for various teams. She burst onto the scene as a teenager, making her senior debut for Northamptonshire in 2019 at just 14, and quickly proving her prowess across formats.

Groves’ regional breakthrough came with Lightning (now The Blaze), where her all-round contributions shone during key fixtures. In the 2023 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, she took 12 wickets at an average of 20.50—including 3/39 in the final—and claimed 11 more wickets in the Charlotte Edwards Cup. Her stellar 2024 season added another 17 domestic wickets, further establishing her as a dependable match-winner.

An inspiring moment in her young career came when she learned of her selection in the squad for the 2023 U-19 Women's T20 World Cup via a phone call. She almost didn’t pick up, but after the news, she ran into the hallway shouting, “Guess who’s got a plane ticket to South Africa for the World Cup!” That tournament led to the U19 T20 World Cup final and a subsequent tri-series in Sri Lanka, where she captained the side and scored a brilliant 57 off 41 against Australia U19s.

Beyond cricket, Groves is an accomplished athlete who also plays netball for the England Academy. She openly aspires to be the best fielder in the world, a goal that reflects her athleticism and determination. On the lighter side, she has a strong family presence at games—her mum is known for singing and dancing in the stands throughout matches.

In June 2024, The Blaze secured her services with a four-year contract through 2028. One of her Blaze teammates, Sarah Glenn, once said that Groves gets a lot of turns on the ball and wants her to teach that.

In The Hundred Women's 2025 Competition, the leggie played for the Southern Brave.
