Player Bio

Rahul Chopra is an Emirati cricketer who has been captaining the United Arab Emirates men’s ODI side since October 2024. He took over the reins from the then captain Muhammad Waseem, who decided to step down after a string of losses at the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) League 2 (2024-27 edition).

A right-handed wicketkeeper-batter, Chopra is valued for his quick reflexes behind the stumps, composed presence at the crease, and ability to both steady an innings and accelerate when the situation demands.

Having grown up in Sharjah, a city that has witnessed several great cricketing moments, Chopra rose through domestic cricket before meeting ICC’s eligibility requirements to represent the UAE. The 1994-born cricketer earned his ODI debut against Canada in February 2024, followed by a T20I debut against Scotland the next month.

One of his career highlights arrived in May 2025 when he scored his maiden ODI century, a fluent 101 against Scotland in Amstelveen. The innings not only showcased his maturity as a batsman but also gave the UAE side renewed confidence in their ability to compete with stronger opponents.

Chopra’s leadership qualities were soon recognised, and in October 2024, he was appointed as the UAE’s ODI captain. On taking over the captaincy, Chopra said in an interview, "Yes, we have won just one match in seven, but I am sure we can win the next four matches against Oman and the Netherlands. The reason for my confidence is that the conditions in Oman and UAE are similar, so we are familiar with the team and the conditions, which will be a disadvantage to the Netherlands."

Alongside his international duties, Chopra has also played franchise cricket, representing the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20, where his elegant stroke play and adaptability have drawn attention.
