Player Bio

Tom Andrews is one of Australian cricket’s most dependable spin-bowling all-rounders — a player who has quietly built his career on consistency, control, and the ability to perform under pressure. Born on 7 October 1994 in Darwin, Northern Territory, Andrews is a left-handed batter and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, now representing Tasmania and the Sydney Thunder after earlier stints with South Australia, the Adelaide Strikers, and Melbourne Renegades.

Growing up in Darwin, Andrews’ cricketing journey began with the Darwin Eagles, where his natural rhythm and sharp cricketing instincts were evident early on. He rose through the junior ranks quickly, representing the Northern Territory at both Under-17 and Under-19 levels, and later earning a call-up to Australia’s Under-19 side. His standout performance came against Zimbabwe U19s, when he picked up a five-wicket haul in a dominant win. He went on to play 16 Youth ODIs, including the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he finished with 26 wickets.

Andrews’ transition into senior cricket was smooth. He made his one-day debut in 2014 for the Australia National Performance Squad against India A and later that year earned a rookie contract with South Australia. During the 2015–16 Matador Cup, he made headlines with a match-winning 4/41 against the Cricket Australia XI, helping South Australia qualify for the knockout stages. That same season, he made his Sheffield Shield debut and picked up four wickets against Queensland, immediately proving his ability to handle the demands of red-ball cricket.

Over time, Andrews established himself as a reliable performer across formats. His first-class career includes over 30 wickets at a tidy economy of 3.2, while his List A record shows both control and wicket-taking ability, with 39 wickets in 36 matches. In T20s, he has shown the versatility to contribute with both bat and ball, having claimed 13 wickets and made valuable lower-order runs.

In the Big Bash League, Andrews has become a fan favourite. Initially brought into the Sydney Thunder setup as an injury replacement during BBL|14, he quickly made an impact with both his accuracy and his composure. Across ten appearances, he took 11 wickets and impressed with the bat — scoring 66 runs from just four innings at an astonishing strike rate of 206. His all-round contributions earned him a nomination for the Mike Hussey Medal for Thunder’s Player of the Year, and his performances have since cemented his place in the squad for BBL|15.

With his calm temperament, dependable spin, and handy batting, Tom Andrews embodies the modern all-rounder — a cricketer who can adapt to any situation and deliver when it matters most.
