Predominantly a red-ball cricketer who likes to bat all day, Sean Dickson is a South African-born professional cricketer for Durham County. Dickson signed for Kent in July 2015 after impressing as a trialist in the second XI. He was allowed to play in the English domestic cricket as he holds a UK passport thanks to his Beckenham-born mother.
The Johannesburg-born batter played first-class cricket for Northerns in South Africa before making his county breakthrough with Kent. He immediately adapted to the English conditions and won the Supporters Club’s best-uncapped player award in 2016 after a breakthrough season where he scored 207 not out against Derbyshire in the County Championship.
In 2017, the 29-year old scored 318 against Northants which was the highest post-war first-class innings posted by a Kent batsman. He was also part of the side that reached the 2018 Royal London Cup final, also playing his part in the club’s promotion to the County Championship.
Dickson made a surprise move to Durham in 2020, after rejecting a contract extension with Kent. His records in first-class cricket are phenomenal and his attitude on and off the field has been exemplary. By topping up the County averages multiple times, he has proved to be a crucial member of whichever side he plays.
