Player Bio

Matt Quinn, a tall and express pacer who extracts awkward bounce on any sort of pitch condition. He is a former New Zealand U-19 cricketer and later played for Auckland, before joining Essex using his British passport.

Quinn was part of the New Zealand side that finished fourth during the 2012 U-19 World Cup, where the pacer scalped 10 wickets at 16.10 apiece. Later in that season, he made his Auckland debut and represented them for a couple of years.

The Auckland-born also went on to represent New Zealand A, before migrating to the United Kingdom in late 2015. Quinn started his Essex stint, with a three-year contract, in early 2016 and his potential was evident as he took his Championship wickets at 21 apiece.

However, Quinn’s journey at the county has been hit by injuries and he had to toil hard to become a permanent member of the team. In 2017, the pacer had some troubles with his back that led to him dropping down the pecking order.

In 2021, the Essex seamer joined Kent to play four matches on loan to scalp 12 wickets at an average of 19.33. These performances were enough to impress the think tank at Kent, later bagging a three-year contract from 2022 onwards.
