Kolkata will host an exciting Group C clash on Saturday as two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies take on late entrants Scotland at the iconic Eden Gardens. The West Indies, who won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012/13 and 2016, are eager to start their campaign on a strong note after a recent 1-2 series loss to Afghanistan.

Scotland, on the other hand, was added to the tournament only two weeks ago after Bangladesh pulled out, citing security concerns.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had requested the ICC to change the tournament venues, but the ICC rejected the request. With very little time to prepare, Scotland are coming into the tournament as an underdog.

Despite their limited preparation, Scotland have shown in the past that they can be competitive.

In 2024, they were eliminated at the group stage, losing just one game. However, their recent warm-up matches have been challenging, they lost both games against Afghanistan and Namibia in Bengaluru.

WI vs SCO Match 2: Captains Thoughts

Shai Hope (West Indies captain): "I have not won a toss in a long time. But would have probably bowled first too. (Happy memories of 2016) Great memories. I was not here. But there were a couple of guys from our camp who were here and had that experience. So, that's something we can use. Every time you cross the line, you have to believe you can. We have a confidence in our abilities.

(On Hetmyer's late arrival) Slightly delayed but he is ready to go. (On responsibility of being the captain) I always enjoy it. Representing the region is great. For me, it is good to be back in all formats. Would love to do well in Test cricket, but for now, lets get this T20 campaign up and running."

Richie Berrington (Scotland Captain): We are going to have a bowl first. Feels like it will be easier to chase in the afternoon.

[On coming to the World Cup at the eleventh hour] Yeah, look obviously. It is a fantastic opportunity for us. Everyone is really excited to be here. We are scheduled to have fitness testing, to be here at Eden Gardens today to start the tournament it is going to be fantastic.

[On how difficult to get ready on short notice was] Yeah, it comes with a few challenges. A lot of hard work has gone by. Since we got here, we got a real good prep. We are just raring to go and starting the tournament.

[On the experience from last World Cup] We have had good performances in the last World Cup. Lot of experience in this team, a lot of young players, plenty of experience as well in this team. People have been here before which is exiciting.

[On beating West Indies before in T20 WC] Really good memories from that day in Hobart. Hopefully, we can show that in our performance today."
