In an important announcement, Cricket Sri Lanka has confirmed that the Sri Lanka Women’s team will tour the West Indies in early 2026 on Tuesday. Notably, this tour will include a total of six matches and will take place across February and March.

To begin with, the tour will feature three One Day Internationals (ODIs) followed by three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The ODI series will start on February 20, with the second and third matches scheduled for February 22 and February 25.

After the ODI series ends, the focus will then shift to the shorter format. The first T20I will be played on February 28, followed by matches on March 1 and March 3. The tour will officially conclude after the third T20I on March 3.

Importantly, all six matches will be played at the same venue, the Grenada National Stadium. Having every game at one location will help both teams settle into the conditions quickly. In addition, fans in Grenada will get the chance to watch high-quality international women’s cricket throughout the series.

Looking at recent performances, Sri Lanka will be eager to end their wait for a T20I series win. In fact, their last T20I series victory came during the Asia Cup in 2024. Since then, results have not gone their way, including a tough five-match T20I series against neighboring India, where Sri Lanka were defeated 5–0.

On the other hand, West Indies have been strong at home. They have won their last two home T20I series against Bangladesh and South Africa, which gives them confidence heading into this tour.

However, when Sri Lanka last toured the Caribbean in 2024, the visitors dominated the ODI series with a clean 3–0 win, while West Indies bounced back to take the T20I series 2–1. Therefore, both teams will be keen to prove themselves once again.

Preparation for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

Most importantly, this tour will act as a warm-up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which begins in June 2026 in England and Wales. The T20I matches, in particular, will be important as both teams fine-tune their squads and strategies ahead of the global event.

Both Sri Lanka and West Indies have been placed in Group 2 of the World Cup, alongside hosts England, New Zealand, and two teams yet to qualify. Notably, Sri Lanka will open their World Cup campaign against England on June 12 in Birmingham.

Finally, in terms of rankings, Sri Lanka are currently sixth in the Women’s ODI rankings, while West Indies are ninth. In the T20I rankings, the positions are very close, with West Indies ranked sixth and Sri Lanka just behind in seventh.
