Filmmaker turned music composer Palash Muchhal has gone back to his routine after being in the midst of intense public attention regarding his personal life. Following the cancellation of his much-publicised wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, Muchhal has now shifted focus back to his professional journey.

His next film project has been announced, marking his first major move since the breakup that dominated news and social media discussions late last year.

Palash Muchhal resumes work with new film project

In the latest development, Palash Muchhal is set to direct an untitled film that will feature actor Shreyas Talpade in the lead role.

The announcement was made by film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who confirmed that Talpade will play the role of a common man in the film. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, the project is expected to go on floors soon.

While details about the story, supporting cast, and release date remain under wraps, the film signals Muchhal’s intent to move forward professionally.

For Palash Muchhal, who has previously been known more for his music compositions than filmmaking, this project represents a continuation of his directorial ambitions despite the storm surrounding his personal life.

A wedding that ended before it began

Muchhal’s return to work comes weeks after his wedding with Smriti Mandhana was officially called off. The two had been in a long-term relationship and were set to tie the knot on November 23, 2025, in Sangli, Maharashtra.

The proposal itself had captured public imagination, with Palash Muchhal proposing to Smriti at a cricket stadium following India’s Women’s World Cup triumph.

Pre-wedding ceremonies such as haldi and sangeet had already taken place, and family members, friends, and several of Smriti’s teammates were part of the celebrations.

Everything pointed toward a joyful union until events took a dramatic turn just a day before the wedding. On the morning of the ceremony, Smriti Mandhana’s father suffered a serious health scare and was hospitalised.

The family announced that the wedding had been postponed so Smriti could be by his side. What initially appeared to be a temporary delay soon turned into a far more complicated situation.

Cheating rumours and public backlash for Palash Muchhal

Within hours of the postponement, Palash Muchhal was also reportedly admitted to a hospital, citing stress and health concerns. Soon after, social media users noticed that Smriti Mandhana had deleted all pre-wedding photos from her Instagram account.

Some of her closest friends and team members even stopped following Palash, and this fuelled speculations as well. Rumours soon surfaced online, particularly on Reddit, alleging that Palash had been unfaithful to Smriti shortly before the wedding.

Although these allegations could never be proven, public opinion soon turned around quickly. Smriti, already dealing with a family medical emergency, found herself at the centre of online sympathy, while Palash Muchhal faced widespread criticism.

Weeks later, both parties released separate statements confirming that the wedding had been officially called off. Smriti thanked supporters and requested privacy, while Palash stated he was moving on and warned against the spread of false information.

Though the full truth has remained with the two, Smriti Mandhana did take the mental toll of it, missing several important public events and silently returning to the field with WPL 2026.
