Jaffer question's Jaiswal's keeping ambitions [Source: AFP]Former Indian cricketer and Mumbai legend, Wasim Jaffer, has questioned Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ambitions to keep wickets in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches. The 48-year-old has urged the Indian star to concentrate on his batting rather than focusing on developing his keeping skills.Yashasvi Jaiswal has been playing for India since 2023, and in the last three years, he has only become a regular member of the Test team and has failed to cement a permanent place in the other two formats. As a result, the southpaw is probably learning a new skill (wicket-keeping) in order to get a place in the other two formats.Jaffer urges Jaiswal to focus on his battingMumbai captain Siddhesh Lad confirmed to the reporters that Jaiswal is working on his keeping skills before the Ranji matches, but Jaffer, one of the biggest names in the Mumbai circuit, wasn’t happy with the decision as he questioned the batter for taking up a new role.“I myself was surprised when I heard this. It is very difficult if you have not kept wickets since childhood. First of all, it is a very demanding job. Apart from that, where is that place even if he starts? There are Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant. I am sure he wants to do it in white-ball cricket,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.ALSO READYashasvi Jaiswal Returns To Mumbai For Ranji Trophy Opener; Ayush Mhatre Named Vice-Captain“It is very difficult in Test cricket. But I feel this is a bit of a joke because wicketkeeping is not an easy task if you have not done it since childhood. It is not an easy skill that you can develop very quickly. I think he is getting a little desperate to get into the white-ball teams. I think he needs to focus on his batting," Jaffer added.Jaiswal's Plan B to succeed in white-ball cricketIn the last three years, Jaiswal has become India’s first-choice opener alongside KL Rahul, and he has done well in the game’s longest format. However, things have not gone according to his plans in white-ball cricket. This is despite the fact that he averages in excess of 70 in ODIs and has a strike rate of 164 in T20Is.With Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma opening in the ODIs, there is no room for Jaiswal as a batter. However, there is a place for Jaiswal as a keeper, since KL Rahul is the lone keeper in the side, and there is no permanent second-choice keeper. As a result, the left-handed batter is learning wicket-keeping, in order to probably play in the white-ball setup (mainly ODIs) as a wicket-keeper batter.ALSO READMatt Renshaw Ends 9 Year Wait, Creates Multiple Records With Hundred In Durban Test
