Logan van Beek, Bas de Leede restrict Namibia to 156
Batting first, Namibia opener Louren Steenkamp got out stumped for a run-a-ball six off Aryan Dutt in the third over of the match. His opening partner Jan Frylinck and number three Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton crafted 50 runs together for the second wicket off the next seven overs to steer Namibia till 60 around the halfway stage of the innings.
While Frylinck belted 30 off 26 balls, Jan Nicol top-scored in the innings for Namibia with a 38-ball 42 courtesy of a boundary and two huge sixes. Nonetheless, both cricketers had their well-set occupancy at the crease halted by Logan van Beek, who claimed figures of 2-13 in his three overs.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus launched two fours and a six in his nine-ball cameo of 18, and JJ Smit whacked a swift 15-ball 22 to engineer Namibia’s late impetus. Losing five wickets in the final 33 deliveries certainly impacted Namibia’s thrust as Netherlands bowlers restricted them to 156-8 in 20 overs.
For Netherlands, Logan van Beek (2-13) and Bas de Leede (2-20) both picked up two wickets each in the innings, with the latter of the two bagging the prized scalps of captain Erasmus and danger-man JJ Smit. Fred Klaassen also picked up a wicket off a slower ball in the slog overs, that of a struggling Zane Green to secure figures of 1-25.
Bas de Leede anchors Netherlands to a comfortable win
Chasing 157, Netherlands lost opener Max O'Dowd for just seven at the start of the third over. His partner Michael Levitt, however, counterattacked with a boundary and three huge sixes in just 15 balls to crack 28.
His swift 30-run partnership with number three Bas de Leede also ensured Netherlands finished powerplay on a strong note at 50-2. Bas de Leede went on to smash match-defining partnerships with Colin Ackermann and captain Scott Edwards.
Ackermann played the role of an anchor in the partnership, composing 32 runs off 28 balls with a lone six. While he was dismissed by Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton at 116-3 at the end of the 14th over, Bas de Leede blazed Netherlands to a comfortable win with some furious late hitting.
