They remained unbeaten during the league stage, convincingly winning all three of their games against Thailand, Hong Kong, and Pakistan.The team carried that unbeaten streak into the semi-final against Bangladesh. The match was shaping up as a face-off between India’s batting and Bangladesh’s bowling.Bangladesh’s bowling impressed throughout the campaign. While India’s middle-order hasn’t really taken off in the tournament, the opener Shafali Verma looked in the league of her own. Having won the toss, Sri Lanka women elected to bowl first. Striking in the 2nd over itself, Sugandika Kumari got the better off Muneeba Ali.Then, Shawal Zulfiqar and Gull Feroza stitched a partnership which was eventually broken at Pakistan's score of 29 runs in the 5th over. However, the biggest partnership came from Pakistan for the 6th wicket between captain Fatima Sana and Tuba Hasan as Pakistan finished the innings on 130 runs for 5 wickets.Walking out to defend the score, Pakistan gave the biggest blow to Sri Lanka in the 2nd over itself when they dismissed their captain and legend, Chamari Athapaththu. Soon after, Imesha Dulani walked back to the pavilion at Sri Lanka's score of 34 runs in the 7th over.However, the Lankan Women fought back with a lot of grit from thereon with Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari stitching a mammoth partnership in the context of the game as they smashed 67 runs together and took Sri Lanka's tally to the 100-run mark.Eventually, Nilakshika Silva and Kaushani Nuthyangana finished the game for the Lankans in the 19th over and sealed a spot alongside India in the final. The 2026 tournament is the 10th edition, giving Harmanpreet Kaur's side a chance to claim an eighth title.India won the first four editions when the tournament was played as an ODI event, before switching to T20I format in 2012. India won three of the five T20 editions, with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka each claiming one title.On top of that, former Indian captain and opener Mithali Raj is the leading run-scorer in the ODI format, with 697 runs. Smriti Mandhana, with 633 runs, is the leading run-scorer in the T20I format.On the other hand, one of the greatest Indian spinners, Neetu David, leads the wicket’s charts with 27 scalps in the 50-over format.
