Both Nepal and Scotland will be looking to end their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaigns on a high when they face off in what has become the tournament’s first dead rubber on Tuesday evening at the Wankhede Stadium.
England’s win over Italy ensured that Scotland gets eliminated from Super 8 contention, while Nepal were already eliminated due to them losing three back-to-back games. Still, a win here offers pride and confidence after what have been frustrating campaigns for both sides. Scotland have registered one win from three games while Nepal are yet to register their first victory in this WC.
Nepal began with promise, narrowly falling short in a spirited chase against England. However, back-to-back heavy losses to Italy and West Indies exposed inconsistencies, especially in batting. Key players like Kushal Bhurtel and Sandeep Lamichhane haven’t been able to make the impact expected of them in recent games, and the bowling unit has struggled to take wickets.
In the last game against West Indies, Nepal failed to defend their score of 133/8 and lost by nine wickets with more than four overs to spare. Only batter Dipendra Singh Airee performed in the game by playing a knock of 58 runs off 47 balls.
Scotland have had mixed fortunes — a loss to West Indies, a strong win over Italy, then a defeat to England. They’ve shown resilience, especially in adapting quickly despite limited preparation as they were invited to play in the tournament at the 11th hour after Bangladesh decided to give it a miss. Their spin bowling has been one of the tournament’s better-performing units so far.
In their last game against England, the Scots showed a fight but they failed to defend their score of 152/10 and lost by five wickets in the penultimate over. Only skipper Richie Berrington performed with the bat by scoring 49 runs.
Playing in Mumbai, both sides are familiar with the conditions — Nepal in particular, having played all their matches there with strong fan support. The Wankhede wicket has offered 2.2 degrees of turn on average - the most amongst all venues in this WC so far.
Nepal has no injury issues but Scottish seamer Safyaan Sharif is out of the squad because of a groin injury and he has been replaced by Jack Jarvis. With no qualification pressure, both Nepal and Scotland might give opportunities to players sitting on the bench.
Nepal and Scotland have played only two T20I games against each other so far. The first one in June 2025 was won by the Himalayan nation by two wickets while the next one, played three days later, was won by Scotland by 34 runs.
