The USA and Namibia go head-to-head at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, in a Group A clash on Sunday (February 15), just hours before the marquee fixture in the same group, but at a different venue.
The Monank Patel-led side is the first of the 20 teams in the T20 World 2026 to play their fourth and final group game.
The USA badly need to win this game to stay alive in the tournament. They have lost to India and Pakistan. They had a chance to stun the co-hosts, but they failed to hold their nerve. However, they hammered the Netherlands by 93 runs to avoid elimination with a game in hand.
Saiteja Mukkamalla continued his good form with a fine half-century after the openers - Monank and Shayan Jahangir - set the tone. Shubham Ranjane gave the finishing touches and propelled the USA to 196/6 - a total that proved too much for the Dutch. Harmeet Singh broke the back of the Netherlands' batting line-up with a four-wicket haul. More importantly, Shadley van Schalkwyk picked up three wickets and continued his unreal form. He already has 11 wickets in this WC. Mohammad Mohsin continued to impress and had another spinner - Nosthush Kenjige - in support.
Seamers, barring van Schalkwyk, need to step up to put in a complete bowling performance that the USA came extremely close to in their last game.
Andries Gous has missed the last two games due to illness. If he recovers in time, then the wicketkeeper batter will open the batting at the expense of Jahangir.
On the other hand, Namibia are on the brink of elimination. They are yet to taste a victory in this competition. They have been on the receiving end against the Netherlands and India. The latter was a complete demolition, but they can be proud of the fight their spinners showed. Chepauk will only add more in favour of their tweakers.
The Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus initiated an Indian collapse twice and also finished with 4/20. Bernard Scholtz gave a bit of support. But the rest of the bowling attack didn't support their captain, and hence, they were asked to chase 210. Batting never really clicked against a world-class Indian side. The focus will be firmly on their batting.
A fight for survival will only see the two outfits give their all on a Sunday afternoon. Who will be the first to be eliminated from Group A? To find out, join us at 2 PM IST and Local Time on Sunday for its live coverage!
