A clinical performance from USA as they register a 31-run victory. They are now done with all their group stage games but still have a slight chance of qualifying for the Super 8s. Namibia register their third successive defeat and are out of the race for the Super 8s. However, they still have one group stage game left.

This is Mohammad Anab signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Manan Mehta and our scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. A special thanks to our statistician Aman. Don't log out of CREX as our team of commentators is prepared to give you ball-by-ball live coverage of the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash. Cheers.
Monank Patel (USA Captain): "(On doing their homework) Yes, sir. We do the homework for every team, and we have done it for Namibia too. I thought winning the toss and batting first—we knew the wicket was going to get better—so we wanted to make sure that we got a proper start. I thought the partnership between Shayan and me was very crucial, and later on, the way Sanjay finished off the innings was outstanding. We knew that 200 is a good score if we put pressure on the bowlers.

(On his batting) I mean, I’ve opened the innings most of the time, and after the first two games, I decided to open again. I thought my role was to play freely and make sure that I express myself. Today was the day I got a chance early and I capitalized, and I’m happy that it contributed to us winning.

(On Sanjay Krishnamurthi) Sanjay is an incredible talent that we have in our squad. The way he played today, I thought he was a bit under pressure because he couldn’t capitalize in the last two innings. But the way he played today—great credit to him. He can hit the ball very far, and the way he expressed himself today, I thought that because of him, we were able to make 200 runs.

(On playing at Chepauk) It feels like home. The crowd has been fantastic since the last two games. They’ve been very supportive, and I feel like a lot of our players have been playing in the Texas Super Kings, and because of that, we’re getting that home support."
Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia Captain): "(Toss impact) Yeah, I think we would have batted first as well. It was a nice wicket and a good scoring one. Though we cannot control the tosses so it's okay.

(What went wrong with the ball?) We tried to make plans after the previous game. However, the powerplay did not go our way. Kudos to Myburgh for getting us back into the game with his spell.

(A word on Willem Myburgh) Yeah, he is very good, had great control on his leggies. All the top bowlers in the game seek to be leg spinners, so he is an asset to have.

(What went wrong with the bat) Yeah, we were in the game at the halfway stage. We had a good foundation. Obviously, the batters coming would find it tough to get going. Not great intent at times, though. We should have had a crack at more. Yeah, we are confident about the last game."
Sanjay Krishnamurthi (POTM): "(Batting plans) Against the spinners it was holding a bit, so I did not want to take that risk very early. I can hit well off the backfoot and I backed my strengths. After 14 overs, I decided to go behind it.

(Importance of the start) Both the openers getting us off to a good start is so important. It helps a lot especially on a wicket like this that turns a bit.

(Preparations) We had a month-long camp in Sri Lanka. I was working a lot on power hitting. I knew if the ball was in my zone I could hit it out.

(Crowd support) Incredible to play here. For a game like USA vs Namibia to have so much crowd is special. Appreciate everyone to come over. This will be in the top 5-6 innings of my career. Probably the best for USA."

6:18 PM IST, Local Time: A clinical performance by USA as they have registered a win by 31 runs. Back-to-back wins for the Americans. Namibia tried their best to reach the target but they failed. The Namibians are now out of the tournament with three successive defeats. USA still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the Super 8s.

After electing to bat first, USA went on to make their highest score in the T20 WCs. Skipper Monank Patel led from the front and scored 52 off just 30 balls. However, it was middle-order batter Sanjay Krishnamurthi, who scored 68* off just 33 balls. The youngster brought up his career's first T20I fifty and took USA's total to 199/4. Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus and leggie Willem Myburgh picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Namibia started very strongly. Like the USA openers, the Namibian opening pair of Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck added 54 runs for the first wicket.

Steenkamp looked strong and made a half-century but he failed to take it deep and got dismissed for 58 (39). Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton was hitting the ball well but then got out for 28 (19) while trying to play a cheeky shot. JJ Smit made 31 off 23 balls before getting out in the final over.

Namibia decided to retire out Zane Green at the start of the penultimate over and send in Ruben Trumpelmann. But at that stage, over 50 runs were needed in 12 balls, which was almost impossible.

Namibia ended their innings at 168/6 and registered their third straight defeat, which means that their campaign in this T20 WC comes to an end. However, they still have one more group game left against Pakistan.

Most of the USA bowlers were very clinical in their approach. Shadley van Schalkwyk proved his worth again and took 2/30. Seamer Saurabh Netravalkar, who was making a comeback to the playing XI, bowled well and took 1/27 in his four overs. Notably, frontline pacer Ali Khan had an off day in the office.

USA have now registered back-to-back wins and can only qualify for the Super 8s if the results of the other Group A games go in their favour.
