Milestone
That wraps up our coverage for this game. Do switch tabs as the match between Sydney Thunder Women and Hobart Hurricanes Women isn't far away. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey and scorer Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Bye bye.
Georgia Wareham (Player of the Match): "Yeah, it's a great way to start the tournament. We managed to get a win on the board in some tricky conditions. Really happy to start with a win.

I think our management have done a brilliant job in sticking with the core players. We are starting fresh and it has been a perfect start for us.

(On wearing black arm bands) Yeah, my nana passed away last week. It was nice from the girls to wear black armbands for my family.

It was a very busy couple of months back in India. The girls have been very welcoming and it made it very easy for me to mix with the players."

11:15 AM IST, 3:45 PM Local Time: That's it. Defending champions Melbourne Renegades Women emerge victorious in the opening game of the Women's Big Bash League 2025. They beat Brisbane Heat Women by seven wickets in a rain-curtailed fixture here in Brisbane. All smiles in the Renegades camp as they start their title defence on a winning note.

Chasing a revised target of 66 in eight overs, the Renegades got off to a worst possible start. Lucy Hamilton struck on the very first ball as Davina Perrin registered a golden duck on her WBBL debut. In the next over, Sianna Ginger dismissed Alice Capsey (5) and Deandra Dottin (8) to reduce the Renegades Women to 13/3.

Courtney Webb though was unfazed at the other end and she played some beautiful strokes. She dealt in boundaries to shift the pressure back on the Renegades Women. Webb was supported nicely by her skipper Georgia Wareham as both kept ticking the scorebvoard. Webb and Wareham remained unbeaten on 34 and 16 respectively as the 53-run fourth-wicket stand guided the Renegades Women across the line with three balls to spare.

Earlier, Brisbane Heat Women were asked to bat first. Nadine de Klerk opened the batting and held the innings from one end but lacked support as Charli Knott (4), Jemimah Rodrigues (6) and skipper Jess Jonassen (8) fell cheaply. de Klerk scored 38-ball 40 before getting dismissed in the 11th over as the Renegades Women kept things tight with the ball.

Chinelle Henry provided some spark with the bat with her 22-ball 29 but the Heat side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Georgia Redmayne (16) was the third and final Heat batter to get to double digits as it was a sorry-looking scorecard for them. The hosts eventually got bundled out on 133 on the final ball of their innings.

It was a complete bowling performance from the Renegades Women. Tess Flintoff (3/30), skipper Georgia Wareham (3/12) and Alice Capsey (3/22) picked up three wickets each to dent the Heat Women’s progress. The batting unit got off to a shaky start but Webb and Wareham showed great composure at the crease and took their side over the line with seven wickets in hand.

1 Webb with the winning runs. Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by seven wickets in a rain-curtailed fixture. This was a flighted delivery outside off, Webb shuffles across the stumps and goes for the sweep but gets a top edge over the keeper for a run.
Scores are Level. 1 run required off 4 balls.
7.2 C Knott to G Wareham
1 Scores Level!!! Wareham rocks back and mistimes the pull towards mid off. Steals a quick run. A fumble from the fielder allows the Renegades skipper to get home.
