So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj as I wrap up the coverage of this fixture. A note of thanks to our scorer, Yogesh Kumar. Do stay tuned to our network with a plenty of cricketing action lined up for Monday. Until then, it is a warm good-bye from us.
Matthew Breetzke (Player of the Match):"Very happy, very relieved. To do it in front of family and the home crowd is amazing. We saw in their innings how quickly you can score in the back-end. You have to set up a platform with ones and twos. To be fair, this is a typical St George's wicket. I knew it wasn't going t be easy but I can change-up.
I have had to change my game because the pitches haven't been easy as I said. Yeah, it has been clear from the coaching staff. Quinny (Quinton de Kock) was nice and relaxed. He is awesome to bat with. Me and Quinny are really close, he took me for a net before the match."
Matthew Breetzke has been named as the 'Player of the Match'.
Tristan Stubbs (Sunrisers Eastern Cape Captain): "I think we put in a really good performance. Good to take momentum into the Play-offs. The boys were up for it today. We were thrown a bit of adversity with Milney (Adam Milne's injury) but we stood up and then chased down the target. Thank goodness, it spun. Everyone backed up the bowlers in the field.
(Whether they thought about the bonus point) Not at all. We wanted four points today. I think they batted beautifully. The way Quinny (Quinton de Kock) and Brettzky (Matthew Breetzke) batted was amazing. Brettzky has batted a lot here at St George's. We got a nice thing going with the senior players. Winning always helps. The crowd deserves a mention. They have been fantastic all tournament. We owed them a win."
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
Nicholas Pooran (MI Cape Town Captain):"Today, obviously a tough day for us. We knew we had to win with a bonus point. They bowled well and we lost our way early on. Felt like if we could have got 5-10 more runs, would have more challenging. It is a disappoint tournament for us and we have ourselves to blame. I had a poor tournament with the bat as well.
We won the tournament last year, you can't win it every time. The first and foremost thing is to qualify. We have to take responsibility, we have pride in our performances. I can't point out anyone when I didn't perform myself. It is all about learning from this, understanding and coming back stronger next year.
I don't have the answer for that. It is my first year here. Things happen for a reason. We have experienced, world-class players here. It won't take long for us to find what are the answers. We just want to continue to accept the reality. If you do that, you can move forward."
22:34 PM IST, 19:04 PM Local Time: A fine performance from Sunrisers Eastern Cape as they complete their fifth win of the season and move to 28 points. The chase seemed to be getting tricky during the last four overs but Matthew Breetzke and Jordan Hermann ensured that MI Cape Town never peaked ahead.
Chasing 149 for victory, Jonny Bairstow tried to put the pressure on the opposition bowlers but he perished off Kagiso Rabada's bowling in the third over. The duo of Quinton de Kock and Matthew Breetzke played the rest of the Powerplay in a safe manner as Sunrisers Eastern Cape only got to 37/1 at the end of six overs.
The MICT spinners, Dane Piedt and George Linde bowled extremely well to keep the batters quiet. Piedt, in particular, bowled with clever changes of pace to challenge de Kock. It was the 10th over which released some pressure for the Sunrisers as de Kock took on Reeza Hendricks to take 15 runs from it.
The wicket-keeper batsman also took 16 runs off the 12th over from Corbin Bosch before getting to his fifty off 40 balls in the 14th over. With MICT coming back with a few economical overs, the equation came down to 40 off the last 24 balls. Breetzke finally got a move on as he reached his fifty off 47 balls. de Kock got out at the start of the 18th over but Breetzke and Hermann ensured that the Sunrisers only needed five off the final over. The win was slightly delayed with Breetzke getting out with only two runs to get before the duo of Hermann and Stubbs took a single each to get over the line with a ball to spare.
Earlier in the match, Sunrisers didn't get off to the best start as Adam Milne pulled his hamstring and walked off the field in the second over of the innings. They still overcame that to strangle the MICT openers with Ryan Rickelton being trapped in front by Chris after the former had managed only 2 off 10 balls. Reeza Hendricks, though, looked in good touch from the word go as he helped MICT to 43/1 at the end of the Powerplay.
Reeza didn't have great support at the other end with Green and James Coles accounting for the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen and Nicholas Pooran. Reeza finally got a decent partner in George Linde who smashed three sixes before holing out to long-on off Green's bowling in the 16th over.
Reeza didn't get much strike after reaching his fifty which played into Sunrisers' hands. Jason Smith came up with a couple of useful hits but the duo of Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje ensured that MICT were reduced to 148/6 with Reeza remaining unbeaten on 70 off 44 balls.
