Player of the Match: Michael-Kyle Pepper
2:04 AM IST & 9:34 PM Local Time: That’s the end of the match and it’s a comprehensive victory for Essex! A dominant all-round performance sees them thrash Sussex by 6 wickets and register their second win of the season.

Sussex won the toss and chose to bat first, with openers Daniel Hughes and Harrison Ward providing a composed start. However, both were dismissed in consecutive overs during the powerplay, and Tom Clark fell cheaply soon after, leaving Sussex reeling at 46/3 after 6 overs.

John Simpson played a fighting knock, forming key stands with Tom Alsop and Danny Lamb to rebuild the innings. He held the fort with a composed 52 but found little support from the other end. Once Simpson departed, Sussex’s innings nosedived as the lower order crumbled. They lost their last five wickets for just 9 runs, folding for 145 in 18.2 overs. Mohammad Amir led the Essex attack with a superb 3/16.

In reply, Essex didn’t have the smoothest of starts, losing Paul Walter for 5 and Jordan Cox for 4 within the powerplay. However, Michael-Kyle Pepper stood tall at one end, capitalizing on the field restrictions and playing some exquisite strokes to keep the scoreboard ticking. He stitched together a vital 69-run partnership with Charlie Allison for the third wicket, stabilising the chase. That stand was eventually broken by Henry Crocombe, who dismissed Allison for 24. But by then, the asking rate had dropped well below six an over, and Essex were cruising.

Michael-Kyle Pepper continued to anchor the innings superbly and found another reliable partner in Luc Benkenstein. The duo shared an unbeaten 54-run stand off 42 balls to wrap up the chase comfortably. Benkenstein stayed not out on 25 off 22, while Pepper was the star of the show with a magnificent 87* off just 47 deliveries.

It was a clinical performance from Essex, who proved too strong for Sussex and played the role of party spoilers to perfection. They sealed a dominant 6-wicket win with 23 balls to spare!
