The Indian Premier League (IPL) action moves to the Pink City for the first game of this double-header Sunday. In match number 59 of the ongoing edition of IPL, Rajasthan Royals will host high-flying Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 18.
The Royals are out of the playoff race, having won just three of their 12 games and sitting ninth on the points table with six points. However, they still have a chance to play spoilsport for other teams.
In a major boost for them, skipper Sanju Samson is back at the helm. Samson hasn't played since April 16 due to a side strain.
Punjab, on the other hand, have one foot in the playoffs. They currently sit third on the points table with 15 points from 11 games. If they win their remaining three matches, they'll finish with 21 points, more than enough to secure a spot in the next round.
Even a single win might be enough to take them through, but in that case, net run-rate could come into play.
Mitchell Owen, Azmatullah Omarzai, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, and Kyle Jamieson have all joined the Punjab Kings squad ahead of this clash. Jamieson is the replacement player signing for his fellow Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson, who was previously ruled out for an indefinite period due to a hamstring injury.
Jansen is expected to leave the squad once the league stage concludes. There is still no official word on whether Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie, and Josh Inglis will return to India for the remainder of IPL 2025.
On the other hand, Jofra Archer is set to miss the remainder of IPL 2025. Nandre Burger, who was brought in as a replacement for Sandeep Sharma, is yet to join the squad.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius (replacement for Nitish Rana), Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shimron Hetmyer, Kwena Maphaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana are the overseas options currently available for the Royals.
The last time these two sides met in the ongoing edition of the IPL, the Royals emerged victorious in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.
Royals posted a total of 205/4 in 20 overs. In response, Punjab could only muster 155/9 from their quota of 20 overs.
Can the Royals halt Kings' charge towards the playoffs? To find out, tune in at 2:30 PM IST & Local Time for its live coverage.
