Highest Opening Stand for Middlesex against Essex in T20:
100- Owais Shah/Edward Smith (Southgate, 2005)
97- Stephen Eskinazi/Kane Williamson (Chelmsford, TODAY)
85- Stephen Eskinazi/Max Holden (Lord's, 2020)
Simon Harmer (Essex Captain):"I think we got a good start but lost a few wickets in the transition phase. I think 180 was par score here. It is frustrating but we have 6 more games to come and we have to comeback stronger.
Two games back to back is taxing when the team is not performing well. We have three days to regroup before the next match and we hope we will do better."
9:05 PM IST & 4:35 PM Local Time | Middlesex have displayed complete dominance over Essex and have come out with flying colours to register their first victory in this edition of T20 Blast. Essex continues to totter at the nadir of the points table with no victory so far. They got off to a solid start as Adam Rossington and Dean Elgar found boundaries at regular intervals. Their partnership yielded 60 runs from 5.3 overs before Rossington got out for 31 off 17 balls. Two balls later, they lost Michael-Kyle Pepper for a silver duck. After that they had a big collapse. Their well set batter Dean Elgar departed for 32 and the Middlesex spinners ruled the roost. Luke Hollman and Zafar Gohar took the wickets in the first middle over phase and the Essex were reduced to 78/6. They had a redemption and thanks goes to Luc Benkenstein and their skipper Simon Harmer. They registered a 43-run partnership for the 7th wicket before Benkenstein got out for 26. But Simon Harmer hit the balls at will and top scored with 41 off 28 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes before getting dismissed in the final ball of the innings. For Middlesex, Tom Helm continued his good form and finished with 4/32. Luke Hollman took a couple of wickets and the rest of the wickets were shared between Noah Cornwell, Josh Little and Zafar Gohar.
Coming to chase the 157-run target, Middlesex got off to a steady start thanks to their skipper Stephen Eskinazi. Eskinazi hit the boundaries and Williamson played the required second fiddle. Their 97-run opening stand kept their team ahead in this competition. Williamson got out for 31 and soon after Eskinazi followed him. Eskinazi was the star of the batting show. He led from the front and scored 72 off 47 balls with 8 fours and 2 maximums.
After Eskinazi's wicket, Middlesex lost Leus du Plooy. Essex skipper Simon Harmer bowled a wicket maiden over but Jack Davies overcame that to hit a couple of boundary strokes. When 27 was needed off 21, Ben Geddes show started. Geddes tonked Paul Walter for three maximums back to back and in the first ball of the next over, Higgins reverse swept Critchley for another maximum. A ball later, Geddes finished the run chase with a boundary.

4 FOURRRR!!!! Middlesex have got a comfortable victory over Essex and have opened their account in this year's T20 Blast. A back of length delivery at the middle stump. Geddes pulls at it and it goes flat towards deep midwicket. The fielder charges forward for the catch but it lands short of him and eludes him for a boundary.
17.2 M Critchley to R Higgins
1 Good length delivery at the off stump. Higgins moves back and punches it to cover area for one.
