Nurul Hasan (Rangpur Riders Captain): "I think we played really well. Long way to go but we wanted to carry on this momentum to Sylhet also.
Yeah definitely, Khushdil, Iftikhar, Nahid and especially Akif, as he is playing his first game. Everyone bowled really well. With the bat, Saif and Hales did a great job for us.
Yeah it's a little bit of challenging and I am enjoying my role as the captain. Yeah we lost two wickets early on but Saif & Hales batted really well to take us over the line."
Saif Hassan (Player of the Match): "Yeah, I think when I came to the crease, I saw that we were two wickets down, so I knew I needed to settle in. I spoke with Hales, and since the wicket was good, I just tried to bat according to the situation.
Yeah, of course, he (Hales) was a great help. He communicated with me very well, which was really useful to me."
Player of the Match: Saif Hassan
Alex Hales: "Yeah, I think a lot of credit has to go to our bowlers for bowling them out for that total. It made our job as batters much easier, but they have a skilful bowling attack. So I wanted to, you know, play it safe and avoid taking risks, especially against Shaheen, who is one of the best bowlers in the world. I thought the left-arm spinner bowled fantastically well too. But it was a great partnership, and I’m pleased we got over the line."
Most Valuable Player of the Match:Alex Hales
Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
Tamim Iqbal (Fortune Barishal Captain): "Oh yeah yeah. Definitely, you know it's still very early in the tournament. All the teams are trying to get a settled XI.
We got off to a good start with the bat but we lost wickets in clusters and we lost our way.
Not really, I would like to win every game to be honest. But when you lose some games, you learn from them.
In the last game we did not start well and we lost. In this game, we started well but failed to capitalize. 124 was not enough.
Yeah it was very cool. I thought the seamers will get a lot of assistance, which they didn't. No complaints on the wicket or the conditions. We want to improve and fight back in the next game."
9:07 PM IST, 9:37 PM Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Rangpur Riders as they drub Fortune Barishal by 8 wickets and 30 balls to spare, starting their new year on a high note. Also, they have won three matches on the trot and are yet to be defeated in the ongoing BPL.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Fortune Barishal lost Najmul Hossain Shanto (9) and Towhid Hridoy (4) cheaply inside the powerplay. Tamim Iqbal looked in good touch but he failed to sustain for a long, departing for 28 runs off 18 balls. Khushdil Shah impressed with the ball for the Riders as the left-arm spinner grabbed three wickets in quick succession and put the Fortune Barishal in deep trouble. Tamim Iqbal’s side lost wickets at regular intervals and Mohammad Nabi’s crucial 21 runs helped them cross the 120-run mark. Eventually, they were skittled for 124 runs in 18.2 overs. Khushdil Shah shone with the ball for the Riders, claiming three wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed and Nahid Rana chipped in with a couple of wickets each, while Mahedi Hasan and Akif Javed contributed one wicket to the downfall.
Chasing a modest target, the Rangpur Riders lost Md Azizul Hakim Tamim and Tawfique Khan for ducks in the second over, with Iqbal Hossain Emon claiming both wickets. Saif Hassan joined Alex Hales in the middle and the pair steadied the ship and took the game too far from the Fortune Barishal. The dynamic duo switched gears as the innings progressed and helped their side seal the game with 30 balls to spare.
Saif remained unbeaten on 62, while Hales finished the game with a six, remaining unbeaten on 49. Fortune Barishal bowlers failed to carry their momentum and leaked runs at regular intervals as a result they faced a massive defeat which will dent their net run rate as well.
