That's all we have from the coverage of this Match No. 19 of the Super Smash 2024-2025 between Northern Brave and Canterbury Kings.
This is me, Hiren Kumar signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Sumeet alongside scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur who brought you all actions of the event. BYE, CHEERS!!
Cole McConchie (Canterbury Kings Captain):"Yeah a good effort by the boys. We probably thought we were a fraction short of the par total. But the Bowlers did a superb job and Ish in particular was exceptional. Lucky that we have some quality options with the ball and at times it’s a bit of an headache. Yes, its good to get a win and head over to Wellington. Fingers crossed, hoping the momentum continues."
Jeet Raval (Northern Brave Captain):"Yeah, not happy with the loss. I thought we were ahead at the halfway mark. The spinners were brilliant for us. We were off to a good start but lost too many in the end. We have a game on the same wicket in a couple of days and hopefully, we come back strong."
Ish Sodhi (Player of the Match):It's nice to be able to contribute in the win and get some points on the board for the team. Yes there was good spin in the wicket and the wicket was a bit on the slower side. Yes this win will help us to get our act together towards the fag end.
Player of the Match - Ish Sodhi
12:01 PM IST & 7:31 PM Local Time | ALL OVER! The Canterbury Kings win by 23 runs. A clinical performance from them with the ball which seals the game for them. A much needed victory for their campaign.
So, here is how the game panned out.
Opting to bat first, the Kings lost an early wicket against the new ball but recovered well post that. Tom Latham and Matthew Boyle batted brilliantly at top and scored 46 and 49 runs respectively. It was difficult for their middle order to tackle the spinners and were dismissed cheaply. In the end, Henry Shipley also played a good knock off 21 which helped his side finish on a high.
With the ball, the Brave started well in the powerplay but were a bit expensive in the death. Their spinners were brilliant today and did a good work in the middle overs. Frederick Walker and Mitch Santner were the pick of the bowlers and picked up 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
Coming to the chase, the Kings had the momentum with them. They were a bit expensive in the powerplay and were also wicketless but bowled brilliantly post that and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. William O'Rourke was the top wicket taker for them and picked up 3 wickets to his name. Ish Sodhi and Cole McConchie were also impressive and picked up 2 wickets each.
With the bat, the Brave were off to a solid start credit to Katene Clarke and Joe Carter who scored 31 and 26 runs respectively. Their middle order could not capitalize on the start and kept losing wickets and fell well short of the total in the end.
Stay tuned for the presentations.
