That is the coverage of the Match 13 of Legends League Cricket 2024 between Manipal Tigers and Toyam Hyderabad. For now, this is me Aditya Agarwal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Hiren and Soumarya Dutta, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi brought you all the live action of this fixture. We will meet again. Until then, cheers!
Harbhajan Singh (Manipal Tigers Captain) - " I think Asela was the best choice to bowl in the super over. Well I believe any bowler can under hammer and go for runs.(on Rahul Shukla's last over) We need to keep a smile and keep on working. We are happy with the result. We are a good bunch of unit and have some good quality players.
Thisara Perera (Legend of the Match):"When I was batting, I tried to play my normal game. Yeah, it is easy to play pace here rather than the spinners. It worked for me. 140+ was a good score on this wicket. We bowled very well in the super over as well."
Legend of the Match: Thisara Perera
Welcome to the post match presentations.
Gurkeerat Singh Mann (Toyam Hyderabad Captain):"It was tough out in the middle and facing spinners was not easy. The 26 runs in the last over could have been scored only against a fast bowler. I was too far anyways I think (if he could have completed the run in the last ball). All the three games have gone down to the wire. Hopefully, we cross the line in the coming games."
00:29 IST and Local Time | What a match we just had! Manipal Tigers win the match in the end in the super over and bags 2 crucial points for them.
Here's a review of what happened in the match.
Earlier, Manipal Tigers won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch that was quite slow and was offering turn for the spinners. Batting first, they started off slow and lost 3 quick wickets inside the 6 over powerplay as their score read 38/3. Angelo Perera then did some rebuilding in the middle but his innings of 18 was cut short by Nuwan Pradeep. Tigers were at one time reeling on 82-6 after 14 overs.
Out walked then Thisara Perera, he smashed the Toyam Hyderabad's bowlers to all parts of the ground and his quickfire knock of 48* off just 27 balls helped his team to get to an above par score of 144/7.
On the other hand, Bipul Sharma and Gurkeerat Singh Mann bagged 2 wickets apiece and bowled brilliantly in the middle overs.
Chasing 145, Chadwick Walton gave Toyam Hyderabad to a flier start but his innings was cut short by Rahul Shukla. Toyam Hyderabad then lost 2 quick wickets and ended the powerplay on the score of 33/3.
Shaun Marsh then joined hands with his skipper Gurkeerat Singh Mann and the duo put up a 58 run stand for the fourth wicket and brought back their side into the game.
With 54 runs required in 6 overs, Asela Gunaratne bagged a crucial wicket of Shaun Marsh and put the Hyderabad side on the backfoot. Manipal Tigers bowled tight lines and lengths and didn't let Toyam Hyderabad's batters to score runs freely. Required rate kept mounting up and wickets started to fell at regular intervals.
With 26 runs required from the last over, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Stuart Binny smashed some lusty blows off Rahul Shukla and brought the equation to 2 runs required from the last ball. Gurkeerat Singh Mann then got run out at the last ball and Toyam Hyderabad fall 1 run short of the target resulting in a TIE.
The match got to super over, Asela Gunaratne then bowled a magical over and gave away just 4 runs and picked up a wicket as well, setting a mere target of 5 runs. Thisara Perera and Daniel Christian then walked out and made sure they get their team over the line without any hiccups.
