Right then. The league stage of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 has come to an end and we have got our four finalists. The Hobart Hurricanes will face the Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier on Tuesday and Sydney Thunder will face the Melbourne Stars in the Knockout on Wednesday. Thrilling games await us all. Do join us for that.

For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of scorer Manish Bishnoi. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Glenn Maxwell (Player of the Match): "Thanks very much. It’s been a hell of a turnaround this season. It’s a very fun place to be a part of.

I think Stoinis has been very consistent throughout. The results have changed. He has been outstanding. He has held the group together and we can’t speak enough about the change room.

I think it’s just the way we have been around each other. The boys have been outstanding. They have given the energy and all we can expect is 100% support from everyone.

We have a flight tomorrow I think. We have a practice session on Wednesday and come together and hopefully, we will get over the line.”

5:08 PM IST, 10:38 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Melbourne Stars’ juggernaut rolls on. They beat the Hobart Hurricanes by 40 runs at the ‘G to make it five wins in a row and qualify for the finals. It means that the Perth Scorchers have been knocked out of the competition. The Stars will now face Sydney Thunder in the Knockout on Wednesday.

Mitchell Owen gave the Hurricanes a flying start in the chase. He made full use of the fielding restrictions and scored at a brisk rate but lacked support from the other end as Caleb Jewell (5), Charlie Wakim (0) and Ben McDermott (2) were sent packing inside the powerplay, with the scoreboard reading 47/3 after four overs.

Owen played a good cameo of 17-ball 38 before holing out in the deep in the sixth over. Matthew Wade (21) along with Nikhil Chaudhary (27) tried to rebuild the innings and stitched 38 between them before both fell on either side of the drinks break. Tim David kept fighting and scored 18-ball 27 before getting dismissed in the 15th over.

Hobart skipper Nathan Ellis tried hard and scored a quickfire 22-ball 40 lower down the order but it was too much to do in the end as the Hurricanes got knocked over on 179 in 19.3 overs to lose the game by 40 runs. Mark Steketee bowled beautifully for the Stars and registered figures of 4/24 in his 3.3 overs. Joel Paris and Usama Mir grabbed two scalps each as they defended the total successfully.

The Stars were asked to bat first and Sam Harper (23) gave them a solid start. The Hurricanes pulled back things post the powerplay before Marcus Stoinis’ 19-ball 32 helped the Stars get back the momentum. Beau Webster (51) and Glenn Maxwell built a solid 70-run stand for the fourth wicket which laid a solid foundation for a strong finish.

‘The Big Show’ hit some lusty blows and gave the Stars a perfect finish. Maxwell remained unbeaten on 76 as the Stars finished their innings on 219/5. They scored 83 runs in the last five overs, thanks to Maxwell who hit five fours and six maximums in his 32-ball knock which powered the Stars to a mammoth total.
