That's it from our coverage of this BBL fixture between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder. The Thunder strike to hand Melbourne Stars their 5th defeat on the bounce. This tournament now becomes a virtual knockout for the Stars and if they drop more points, their chances of making it to the next stage will fade away.

For now, this is me Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues AkshayaKrishna Polya, Deepak Prakash and Manish Bishnoi. Switch tabs to follow more cricketing action from across the world. Goodbye!!
Sam Billings (POTM): "Yeah, it was. I think there are still areas where we can work on. Duckett played well but we got back into the game.

Yeah, I am very competitive. David asked the boys to show more intent and we can get better. You have to show the intensity and the small margins make a huge difference in close games.

I like to play a few balls to get used to the conditions. I do move around a bit against the spinners. It was good, we needed that. Those partnerships really made the difference.

Absolutely, pretty dopey moment for me. (on missed run-out) Sometimes you need a bit of luck and fortunately, it went my way today.

It is such a tight tournament. A lot of good teams, everyone seems to beating everyone at the moment. Yeah, we are looking to get on a roll now and use that momentum."
Player of the Match: Sam Billings
5:08 PM IST, 10:38 PM Local Time: Good comeback from the Sydney Thunder bowlers in the latter half of the innings helping their team return to winning ways with an 18-run victory over the Melbourne Stars. On the other hand, the Stars have lost five matches on the trot and are yet to open their winning account in the ongoing BBL.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Sydney Thunder posted a hefty 182/8 in 20 overs. Bancroft (21) and Warner  (19) provided a solid start to the Thunder and Sam Billings delivered a scintillating knock. The wicket-keeper batter smashed 72 runs off just 39 balls and propelled Warner's side to over 180 runs in 20 overs.

Webster starred with the ball for the Stars, claiming three wickets. Siddle and Usama Mir chipped in with a couple of wickets each, while Joel Paris celebrated a solitary wicket.

In pursuit of 182 runs, Melbourne Stars lost Sam Harper for just three runs in the opening over of the innings, with Lockie Ferguson drawing the first blood. Ben Duckett and Marcus Stoinis started building the partnership and added 55+ runs for the second wicket but Stoinis failed to carry the momentum and departed for 22 runs off 17 balls. Duckett shifted gears as the innings progressed and smashed yet another fifty in the ongoing BBL but failed to bat till the end and departed for 67 runs.

Hilton Cartwright (17) and Beau Webster (20) kept the scoreboard ticking during the middle phase, but when it was time to accelerate, the Stars crumbled like a house of cards. Wes Agar wreaked havoc in the second over of the power surge, claiming three wickets and plunging the Stars into deep trouble. Eventually, the Stars could only muster 164/8 in their 20 overs quota and fell short by 18 runs.

Wes Agar (3/15) starred with the ball for the Thunder, claiming three wickets. Lockie Ferguson, Daniel Sams, Chris Green, Tom Andrews, and Jason Sangha contributed one wicket to the downfall.

0 That's it!!! Melbourne Stars succumb to their fifth defeat on the bounce. Full and slower one outside off. 102.9 kmph. Couch fails to read the change in pace and misses it to the keeper. Sydney Thunder get over the line by 18 runs.
