For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh alongside scorer/analyst AshokDayma. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and CHEERS!
Imran Tahir (Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "Yes, look I will be grateful to Guyana for giving me the opportunity to play here. My achievement is to do well and help the team win and proud of them.
We knew it was going to be difficult. We needed a better powerplay. But we had wickets in hand. Tough for the batters and then Moeen played well.
One over changed the game. I think we could have done better but 135 was defendable score.
Look, I think the support we get here is amazing. It is sold out and we felt great over the years. 7 years I have been part of and it's incredible. We get great support. Thank the people of Guyana on their support and what a great support. Thanks to them.
Look, it was a good catch. I was pleased to get Hassan's wicket and Motie took an incredible catch and was the turning point of the game in my view.
Thank you and thank you to CPL for giving me the opportunity to perform."
Chris Green (Antigua & Barbuda Falcons Captain): "Yeah, look it was pity for us. Wanted to finish our season on a high and keep our chances alive. Tough conditions here and we weren't up for it. It was really good, there is a consistent structure. Moeen Ali's big over gave them the edge. If that over had gone for 10 odd it could have been under-par.
I think naturally, you need extended runs in partnerships. We really had the platform to launch but lost wickets and then again had to rebuild.
It was a good challenge, I found out last moment that I will be going to Antigua. Great bunch. The reflection of our season is should have, could have, would have.
Look I think some individual performances. Justin Greaves opening the batting. Jewel Andrew started well at 17 years of age. Shamar Springer was good and pity that he missed out tonight.
Really big learning process for us, hope these guys come back bigger and better next year."
Moeen Ali (Player of the Match): "I think, I find it really tough in the middle. My match-up was Imad. A simple hit down the ground and it worked nicely for me.
When Shai got out, we were doing okay. It was good in these conditions as you can go hard at the end.
Imad was the one I had to target because I couldn't really hit anyone else. Just backed my instincts.
When it is spinning big, it is not easy to score runs. Batters have struggled here, I was just trying to make it as hard as possible.
It surprised me how good to the standard is, how good the competition is. It has surprised me. Honoured to play for Guyana."
Player of the Match: Moeen Ali
7:53 AM IST, 10:23 PM Local Time: That's it. Another impressive bowling display by the Guyana Amazon Warriors as they beat Antigua & Barbuda Falcons by 27 runs to go top of the points table. With this win, Guyana Amazon Warriors qualify for the playoffs and so do the Trinbago Knight Riders. The Falcons sadly were good in patches, but they bow out of the competition with this loss.
Chasing a tricky 136 on a challenging pitch, the Falcons lost both their openers Brandon Kings and Justin Greaves early. Kofi James looked good for his 27 off 23 balls. Hassan Khan scored 10 off 12 balls. Jahmar Hamilton scored 12 off 11 balls. Chris Green scored 17 off 17 balls. Joshua James played well for his 15 off 6 balls. 10 extras given by the fielding side as the Falcons were bundled out for 108 in 18.5 overs.
Moeen Ali was by far the pick of the bowlers with magical figures of 3/9 in 4 overs.DwainePretorius supported him well with his 3/9 in 2.5 overs.Imran Tahir the captain completed 100CPL wickets and finished with 2/40 in 4 overs. A wicket apiece for Gudakesh Motie and Shamar Joseph who bowled well as well.
Earlier in the game, the Guyana Amazon Warriors were put into bat first by the Falcons. It was a struggle from the get go with Raymon Reifer struggling to get bat to ball. Azam Khan looked decent out there for his 29 off 24 balls. Shai Hope scored 15 off 19 balls while Shimron Hetmyer scored a quick 13 off 4 balls. But it was Moeen Ali's 42 off 33 balls that powered the innings forward as he clobbered Imad Wasim for 26 runs in the 19th over of the innings. Romario Shepherd scored 10 off 6 balls today. 4 extras given by the fielding side as the Warriors finished with 135/7 in 20 overs.
Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers for the Falcons with figures of 2/15 in 4 overs. Imad Wasim picked up 2 wickets but went for 39 runs including 26 off his final over. Hayden Walsh bowled well for his 1/15 in 4 overs. A wicket for Hassan Khan as well but he went for 15 runs in his only over he bowled. Chris Green bowled a miserly spell of 0/22 in 4 overs.
So, Guyana Amazon Warriors win this game by 27 runs and climbs to the top of the points table. They are through to the playoffs and so are Trinbago Knight Riders. The Falcons have been eliminated alongside Patriots. Stay tuned for the presentations.
