That brings us to the close of this CPL encounter between the St Lucia Kings and the Barbados Royals. For now, it's the pair of Soumarya and Ajay taking your leave on behalf of our Scorer/Analyst Ashok Dayma. See you soon!
Faf du Plessis ( St Lucia Kings Captain)- " Extremely proud of the way the guys played and it wasn't just one or two players. The spinners were superb and there was a lot of overs of spin. Alzarri got us started with the wicket of Quinton de Kock. You have to be busy on this surface and put the bowlers under some sort of pressure as the dot balls will put you in trouble.
During the chase we knew that we had to be ahead of the rate and once we did that we could focus just on the singles post that. A few guys are carrying some niggles but I want the players to connect and play together and be available for the combinations. "
Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals Captain): "It is a difficult wicket. Having said that 4-5 wickets in powerplay is unacceptable. There is not much you can do. You have to fight and battle it out.
I think we are playing good cricket. Now time for us to go back and work on areas where we can improve."
Alzarri Joseph (Player of the Match): "We knew it was going to be low scoring today. Just wanted to bowl wicket to wicket. It was slow, some balls were keeping low.
I was just trying to use the angle from around the stumps, it worked in my favour (on Quinton de Kock's dismissal). I mean, I have my plans. For me, just bowling straight at the stumps is the key."
Player of the Match: Alzarri Joseph
22:36 IST and 13:06 Local Time- Roston Chase finishes off the game for the St Lucia Kings and they have managed to book a place in the play offs with a comprehensive victory here. He clinch this match by 7 wickets and it has been an absolute demolition job from them. They lost some wickets early but two solid partnerships, both having Chase at the fulcrum of it, saw them through with ample time left.
Johnson Charles was dismissed early by Jason Holder and the St Lucia Kings also lost Auguste to Theekshana. However Faf du Plessis used all his experience and started to pick up the boundaries and also take the singles every over. He was well accompanied by Roston Chase who mixed caution with aggression. The pair got the Kings to 38 after the powerplay.
With the foundation set, Faf tried to play the shots but he was dismissed by Maharaj as he got him out stumped. He had done his job though as he scored brisk 26 from 19 balls on a tough surface. Chase continued to go big after his dismissal and by the halfway stage of the innings St Lucia Kings needed just 26 runs to win.
Tim Seifert joined Chase at the crease and the Kiwi played a crucial role in ensuring that the St Lucia Kings don't slip in the run chase. He played a vital knock of 21 from 17 balls. For the Royals, Theekshana and Maharaj picked up a wicket each but they were expensive as was the other wicket taker Holder. Rahkeem Cornwall wasn't effective either and the bowlers just ran out of steam for the Barbados side.
