So, the Bengaluru-leg of WPL 2024 comes to an end. The action now shifts to Delhi. Do join us tomorrow where the hosts Delhi Capitals Women will be facing the defending champions Mumbai Indians Women. For now, this is Akshayakrishna Polya, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer Raju Khariya. Tata. Good night.
Smriti Mandhana (Player of the Match and Royal Challengers Captain): "I think, after that, the last two matches, we were under the pump. Losing the toss didn't help either. We had to go after the bowling. I think Meghana's knock was important. Later on, Pez (Perry) and Richa went after the bowling. Everything was going well for us. Then the bowlers came out and did their job. I thought of making your (Anjum Chopra's) job easier (chuckles).
(On that dropped chance) Definitely got a little lucky on 26 but I’ll take that because we really wanted this win. The practice was really good, and playing domestic helped as well. It was good preparation, once you get the feel you just need to pick which area to target.
I and Perry were saying to each other that we’ve played together for ten matches but this was our first 50-run stand. We are both experienced enough to recognize which bowler to target. There wasn’t much chat; it was just about executing.
Perry made me run a lot of twos, which was great. The only chat was using the short side, and we thought of seeing Ecclestone off. That chat was really important. A lot of times, she said you will go, you wait and sometimes, she said, you go and I will wait.
We never thought we were out of the game. Chasing 198, we knew they were going to go hard. We had to keep doing things right, target the stumps and at different times, different bowlers took up the pressure and got us the breakthroughs."
Player of the Match: Smriti Mandhana
Sintex Sixes of the Match: Ellyse Perry
Electric Striker of the Match: Richa Ghosh
11:01 PM IST and Local Time: We are ready with the post-match presentations...
Ellyse Perry: “Look, all games that have been played here have been amazing. It’s great that the crowd has come out in numbers and supported. It’s great to have that kind of support and we are very lucky.
I have played a lot of cricket in the last few months. It works some days and doesn’t. Smriit was hitting very well and my role was to support here. After her dismissal, it was good to hit some off the middle of the bat.
We pride ourselves on our fielding. It’s about getting the right fielders in the right spots. It becomes when there are right-handed and left-handed batters. It was great from the girls.
(On breaking the window glass of the car) I was bit a worried. I don’t have any insurance here (laughs).”
