Rovman Powell (West Indies Captain): "Its very special. Kensington brings special memories for us. Opportunity for boys to come out and play some good cricket.
Roston plays a critical role for us. Credit to him, on a very good surface he bowled really well. Credit to all the boys we set a goal and achieved it.
Hope got an opportunity against England at St. Lucia but chopped out the next game due to combination. Its good to see him come back in and be as dominant as he can be. That shows the strength of the team.
South Africa should be a good game. Its a tough nation to play against but the guys are up for the challenge.
We want to be back on the 29th to play in our special place to play cricket. Thanks to the crowd of Barbados supporting us here tonight. They have a special place in our hearts."
Aaron Jones (United States of America Captain): "Yeah, tough night to be honest for the boys. Mainly, against the West Indies, we needed to get to 170-180 and we failed to get there.
I think we lost wickets in clusters. We have to get back to the drawing board and come back stronger on Sunday.
We just tried to go hard. We needed to pick wickets in the powerplay and see how it goes. But West Indies are a strong start and they didn't allow us to come back.
It will be a great game against England. We will go home. Have some rest and come back stronger.
Yes. The crowd is amazing. I just want to thank everyone for the support. A big thanks for supporting me personally and USA team.
Roston Chase (Player of the Match): "Obviously, it's a great feeling. All my friends are watching this and a special feeling.
It's something we talk about in the team meeting. If they get off to a good start in the powerplay, it's our job as spinners to step up and pull back things.
I love fielding at point. It gets me going. Today, I wasn't having the best of the days. I almost missed the bus. But entered the game and I was ready to go.
It's a great place to play cricket. I come from Barbados and it's a great stadium. The fans are amazing and they always support you.
It's our destiny and our goal is to win the World Cup. Anyone in front of us, we have to beat them and we are up for it."
Player of the Match: Roston Chase
8:47 AM IST, 11:17 PM Local Time: West Indies recorded their first win in the Super 8 stage defeating United States by 9 wickets at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The men in Maroon won the toss, elected to bowl first. Roston Chase produced his career best T20I figures of 3/19 with Andre Russell (3/31) and Alzarri Joseph (2/31) shining with the ball.
Shai Hope replacing regular opener Brandon King in the line up started the chase all guns blazing adding 67 runs for the opening wicket with Johnson Charles (15 off 14). Left arm spinner Harmeet Singh got the better of Charles in the 7th over.
Nicholas Pooran joined Hope at the crease with both the batters continuing to hit the bowlers all over the park. Milind Kumar introduced in the 9th over went for 22 runs, Shai Hope hitting him for 3 maximums in a row killing the chase then and there.
The opener finished unbeaten on 82 in 39 balls with the knock comprising of 4 fours and 8 sixes! Pooran added 63 runs for the 2nd wicket and was unbeaten with 27 in just 12 balls with a four and 3 sixes to his name.
Harmeet Singh (1/18) was the only wicket taker for the States with Saurabh Netravalkar (0/31) and Milind Kumar (0/22 in 1 over) being thumped for 3 maximums.
USA having lost their first 2 fixtures in Super 8s have no realistic chance of moving ahead in the semis. The co-hosts need to beat the Proteas by a big margin and then hope South Africa go onto beat the West Indies by a huge margin. They will play their final game of the T20 World Cup 2024 against England at the same venue. West Indies will face South Africa on Sunday night.
