That's a wrap from our side as well. Puneri Bappa starts their campaign on a high note and will look to carry the momentum in the upcoming games. For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saipavan Janaki, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. CHEERS!
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Player of the match and Puneri Bappa Captain):"They started really well, but it was an exceptional comeback from our bowlers. Yeah, definitely as I said big credit to Rohan and Subham, who brought us back in the game and I was also chatting with them that 180 is a chasable target on this pitch.
Not really, I batted with Pavan earlier in fact we played together a lot. I trust him a lot, he times the ball very well. Definitely, he has got a very good future ahead. Personally, I don't believe in momentum in T-20 cricket as it just keeps on changing, yes it's good to start with a win but obviously, there are some areas we need to improve."
Kedar Jadhav(Kolhapur Tuskers Captain):"Obviously many of the boys playing the first time under the light and but credit goes to the Puneri Bappa they really played well, specially Rutu and Pavan. I think we are batting top, and the bulk of runs are from the top three batters. Ankit was the lone warrior for the team.
Not really by the time the first catch was gone, they got a good start, and drop catches have also impacted the bowlers. The best part about the tournament is that 6 teams and 4 teams will qualify, will go and think about it."
It's time for the post-match presentations...
11:16 PM IST | Deepak: A comprehensive victory for Puneri Bappa in the inaugural match of Maharashtra Premier League (MPL). Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side thumped Kedar Jadhav-led side by 8 wickets with 35 balls to spare. Gaikwad continued his sublime form and treated the spectators with his classic shots.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, the Kolhapur Tuskers were restricted to 144/7 in the first innings. The Tuskers were off to a solid start, but they failed to capitalize, lost wickets like a pack of cards in the slog overs, and eventually were restricted to under 150 runs. Their innings was anchored by Ankit Bawne, who amassed the first half-century of MPL and departed for 72 runs. From the bowling front, Sachin Bhosale and Piyush Salvi bagged three wickets for Puneri Bappa, while Bhosale's spell proved a tad costly, Salvi demonstrated exceptional control, conceding just 18 runs in his four overs.
In pursuit of the Tuskers’ 144 runs, Puneri Bappa got off to a rollicking start as both their openers, Pavan Shah and Ruturaj Gaikwad, unleashed a fierce assault on the Tuskers' bowlers from the beginning of the innings and took the game very far from the Tuskers. Gaikwad, in particular, showcased an extraordinary display of batting prowess, reaching his fifty in a mere 22 balls. However, despite his impressive performance, he couldn't carry the bat for his team and eventually departed after amassing a remarkable 64 runs from just 22 deliveries.
Pavan ( 57 off 48) played with authority and went on to complete his half-century but alas, he too failed to carry his bat for the team and got stumped just when his team required a mere 3 runs. Suraj Shinde remained unbeaten on 17 runs and helped his side seal the deal by 8 wickets.
From the bowling front, Tuskers were not up to the mark with the ball and they had to bear the brunt of it. Shreyash Chavan and Taranjit Singh managed to extract a wicket each for Tuskers.
