Vicky Ostwal is a left-arm spin bowling all-rounder from Maharashtra who first gained national recognition during India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph.
A slow left-arm orthodox bowler who models parts of his game on control and accuracy, he later progressed into domestic cricket and earned an IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2026 auction.
Over time, Ostwal has expanded his role from a specialist spinner to a developing all-round option.
Vicky Ostwal’s Early Life and Background
Vicky Ostwal was born on September 1, 2002, in Pune and grew up in the hill town of Lonavala. His cricketing journey began unusually early after a school teacher noticed his talent and suggested formal coaching.
For nearly four years, starting at the age of nine, father and son travelled every day by local train from Lonavala to the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy, spending close to three hours commuting just to attend training sessions. Coach Mohan Jadhav, later, advised the family to relocate closer to the academy.
His early years also included adjustments and setbacks. Because he was not born in Mumbai, he had to join the Maharashtra cricket system rather than represent Mumbai in local tournaments.
The persistence through travel, relocation and technical hurdles shaped his discipline, laying the foundation for his later rise through India’s age-group cricket structure.
Vicky Ostwal’s Domestic Career
Vicky Ostwal made his List A debut for Maharashtra on November 21, 2022, against Mizoram in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He settled quickly into senior cricket, picking up wickets consistently in his initial appearances while maintaining tight control over the scoring rate.
In the 2025–26 season, he also showed growth with the bat, registering his maiden half-century against Goa and proving he could contribute beyond his primary role.
His First-Class debut came earlier the same year on February 24, 2022, against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy, shortly after his Under-19 World Cup success.
The 2025–26 Ranji season became his most productive stretch, where he picked up 23 wickets in seven matches, including a career-best six-wicket haul.
In the Maharashtra Premier League he demonstrated this development by opening the innings in a knockout match and scoring 74 off 54 balls. Combined with his performances in domestic T20 competitions, the improvement highlighted his transition from specialist bowler to genuine all-round contributor.
Vicky Ostwal’s IPL Career
Vicky Ostwal’s IPL journey has largely been about development and preparation rather than immediate opportunities. After his Under-19 World Cup success in 2022, Delhi Capitals signed him at his base price and retained him for three consecutive seasons. Although he did not feature in a match during that period, he remained part of the squad environment, training regularly and learning from experienced players and coaches.
Meanwhile, ahead of the 2026 season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru acquired him for INR 30 lakh, offering a fresh start after his growth in domestic cricket.
