Player Bio

Urvil Patel, born on October 17, 1998, in Mehsana, Gujarat, is a fiery right-handed wicketkeeper-batter who has rapidly ascended the ranks of Indian domestic cricket. Standing as one of the most explosive talents in the modern era, Patel’s game is built on fearless power-hitting and lightning-quick hand speed behind the stumps.

Urvil Patel Domestic Career

Urvil Patel’s domestic journey began with a bang in the shortest format. He made his T20 debut for Baroda on January 8, 2018, against Mumbai during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he immediately showcased his potential with a 28-ball fifty. Just a month later, he made his List A debut on February 14, 2018, for Baroda against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Despite his white-ball success, it took a few more years to break into the longest format, and he eventually made his First-Class debut for Gujarat on February 9, 2024, against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.

The defining chapter of his domestic career unfolded in November 2024. On November 27, 2024, Patel blasted an unbeaten century off just 28 balls against Tripura, setting the record for the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian and the second-fastest globally.

He followed this six days later, with another blistering hundred off 36 balls against Uttarakhand, becoming the first batter to record two T20 centuries within 40 balls.

Urvil Patel IPL Career

Urvil Patel’s entry into the Indian Premier League began in 2023 when he was acquired by the Gujarat Titans for INR 20 lakhs. Although he was part of the squad that reached the final that year, he did not get an opportunity to make his debut and was subsequently released ahead of the 2024 auction.

After going unsold in 2025, his record-breaking domestic form ensured he wasn't sidelined for long.

CSK signed him as a mid-season replacement for the injured Vansh Bedi, and he didn’t take too long to stamp his authority. Despite getting just three chances in his maiden season, he played a couple of match-turning knocks to be looked at as MS Dhoni’s successor.
