A wicketkeeper and imposing top-order batter, Josh Inglis, is an Englishman by birth who played for Yorkshire at the age-group level before his family shifted to Perth. He didn’t take too long to showcase his prowess and find a berth for himself in Western Australia.

The Leeds-born found his real groove for Joondalup during the 2014-15 Premier Cricket season, where he piled up a total of 1137 runs at an average of 66.88. Later, he signed a Warriors rookie contract for the 2015-16 season, during which he amazed everyone, leading to his Sheffield Shield debut in February 2017.

Josh Inglis BBL Career

Josh Inglis’ consistent numbers at the domestic level helped him secure a BBL contract with the Scorchers in BBL 06, replacing Mitch Marsh. Although he made his T20 debut in the 2017-18 BBL season, it was in the BBL|10 where he single-handedly took them to the final.

He remained on the fringes for a couple of seasons before striking 405 runs at an average of 28.93 and a strike rate of 153.00 to earn himself selection in the BBL|09 Team of the Tournament.

The following season was Inglis' career-defining BBL season, where he formed a formidable opening partnership with Liam Livingstone and took the Perth-based franchise to the final of the league. The Scorchers’ runner-up season in BBL|10 is directly proportional to Inglis' career-defining BBL season.

In March 2021, Inglis was signed by Leicestershire County Cricket Club to play in the T20 Blast, where he notched his maiden T20 hundred and then scored another century in that very season.

Josh Inglis T20I Career

In May 2021, Josh Inglis received his maiden national call-up when named in Australia's squad for the T20 World Cup, and the team went on to win the tournament.

However, it was during the Australia-Sri Lanka T20I series in February 2022, when Inglis made his international debut and immediately proved his worth as a dependable middle-order batter. Featuring in all five matches, he showcased his adaptability and aggressive stroke play, finishing among Australia's most consistent performers in the series.

Inglis’s performances not only added stability to the Australian lineup but also earned praise from the then captain Aaron Finch, who lauded his flexibility and temperament at the international level.

In November 2023, he scored his maiden T20 hundred in the first T20I against India in Vishakhapatnam.

In May 2024, Inglis was named in Australia's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. During the tournament, he served as a backup wicketkeeper-batter, with Matthew Wade being the preferred choice. Consequently, Inglis did not feature in any matches during the World Cup.

Meanwhile, on 6 September 2024, in the 2nd T20I against Scotland, Inglis scored his second T20I century. Inglis reached 100 in 43 balls, making it the fastest century ever hit by an Australian batter in T20Is.

Josh Inglis ODI Career

On June 24, 2022, Josh Inglis made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Australia during the fifth and final match of the series against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Batting at number five, Inglis scored 5 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana, caught at leg slip.

One of Inglis' standout performances came in November 2023, when he helped the Australian team win the ICC World Cup 2023. He played an instrumental role in the triumph, playing over the likes of Alex Carey as a wicketkeeper-batter. Batting at number 7, he scored 159 runs at a healthy strike rate. During the tournament, he played a couple of fine outings, including a half-century versus Sri Lanka.

In the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Josh Inglis emerged as a pivotal figure for the Australian cricket team. His standout performance came during a Group B match against England at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. Chasing a formidable target of 352, Australia found themselves in a challenging position at 136/4.

Inglis, demonstrating remarkable composure and skill, crafted an unbeaten 120 off just 86 balls. This innings was instrumental in orchestrating one of Australia's most significant run-chases in ODI history, culminating in a five-wicket victory with 15 balls to spare.

Inglis's century was not only pivotal for the match but also historic. He became the first Australian wicketkeeper to score a century in the Champions Trophy, reaching the milestone in 77 deliveries. This achievement places him alongside esteemed Australian batters like Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting, who have also recorded centuries in the tournament.

Josh Inglis Test Career

On January 29, 2025, Josh Inglis made a remarkable Test debut during Australia's first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Inglis received his 'Baggy Green' Test Cap from Geoff Marsh and became the 470th player to play tests for Australia.

Selected as a specialist batter, Inglis justified his inclusion by scoring a debut century, amassing 102 runs. His aggressive approach was evident as he reached his century in just 90 balls, making it the second-fastest Test debut hundred, only behind Shikhar Dhawan's 85-ball feat.

Josh Inglis IPL Career

For the IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings secured Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis for INR 2.60 crore, marking it as his maiden IPL contract. 

Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Inglis had confirmed that he will not be fully available for the season. However, the Lucknow Super Giants picked the Aussie player for a whopping INR 8.6 crore at the IPL mini-auction. Inglis said he would be getting married in early April, with IPL 2026 set to run from March 26 to May 31.
