Player Bio

Shuchi Upadhyay, a spirited left-arm spinner from Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, is a rising star in Indian women’s cricket. Hailing from a tribal community, Shuchi’s journey mirrors the grit of a cinematic underdog.

Starting at age 12, she honed her skills playing with boys in open tournaments at Mandla’s Mahatma Gandhi ground, as no girls’ teams existed locally. Her talent shone through in domestic circuits, particularly with Madhya Pradesh, where she emerged as a standout performer in the 2024 Ranji Trophy and T20 competitions, setting records for wickets taken.

In April 2025, at just 20, Shuchi earned her maiden call-up to the Indian women’s team for a tri-nation ODI series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Her selection, announced by the BCCI, sparked celebrations in Mandla, with her coaches and family lauding her dedication.

A right-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Shuchi’s ability to outfox batters with flight and turn has drawn praise. Her debut match in Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium marked the start of her international journey under captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

At 20, Shuchi’s raw talent, work ethic, and inspiring backstory from street cricket to the national stage position her as a beacon for young cricketers, especially from India’s heartlands.
