A promising South African wicketkeeper-batter, Keagan Lion-Cachet, has begun carving a name for himself in domestic cricket. Known for his calm presence behind the stumps and fearless stroke play, Lion-Cachet is part of a new generation of Proteas cricketers pushing through the system.

Growing up in Pretoria, he developed a reputation at both school and club levels as a natural leader with a sharp cricketing mind. Lion-Cachet himself admitted that he never thought to play the SA20 league in early 2025, especially given the fact that the 2002-born boy was in the fourth-grade cricket team of his university in 2021.

Signing a rookie contract with the Pretoria Capitals was his breakthrough moment. He had impressed the Pretoria Capitals' scouts through his performances while playing for the Tuks Cricket Club and in the National Premier League. Though still at the early stages of his professional career, his ability to absorb pressure and accelerate late in an innings has already earned him recognition. In the 2024/25 SA20 season, he compiled over 80 runs in five outings, striking at over 130. His unbeaten knocks highlighted both maturity and a clear understanding of match situations. His debut against the Eastern Cape in January 2025 was a bit of a surprise for him, as Lion-Cachet was informed about being named in the playing XI just half an hour before the match. Therefore, he didn't get time to inform his friends and family about it prior to the game.

The Pretoria lad is yet to make his debut in first-class and List A cricket. Representing Northerns in age-group and semi-professional cricket, he demonstrated consistent run-scoring ability, particularly in the shorter formats.

Still only in his early twenties, Lion-Cachet remains a work in progress but is seen as a potential long-term wicketkeeping option for South Africa. According to former English batter Jonathan Trott, Lion-Cachet is "a very talented young player and eager to learn".

For the 2025/26 season of the SA20 tournament, Lion-Cachet will be playing for the Paarl Royals franchise.
