Growing up in Auckland, Abbas was immersed in a cricket-centric environment, spending considerable time at the Eden Roskill Cricket Club, where his father served as a player-coach. This early exposure allowed him to develop a profound understanding of the game.

By the age of 11, Muhammad had already showcased his batting prowess by scoring his first century during an Auckland Year Seven tournament at Lloyd Elsmore Park.

His academic and cricketing pursuits led him to King's College in Auckland, a school renowned for its cricketing heritage. Under the guidance of former New Zealand International, Dipak Patel, who coached the First XI, Abbas refined his technique and approach to the game.

By the age of 14, Abbas had amassed seven centuries, including two in T20 matches—a rare accomplishment at such a young age. His ability to construct substantial innings and his mature temperament at the crease drew attention from various quarters of the cricketing community.

Muhammad Abbas made his first-class debut for Wellington in the Plunket Shield 2022-23 against Otago at the University Oval, Dunedin. Displaying immense composure in his maiden appearance, the young batting all-rounder contributed a crucial 50 off 105 balls in Wellington’s first innings, anchoring the middle order while forming key partnerships. His half-century showcased his ability to adapt to the longer format, mixing solid defensive play with well-timed strokes. With the ball, Abbas also bowled a few economical overs of left-arm medium pace but remained wicketless.

In the Ford Trophy 2023-24, Muhammad debuted in the List-A format for Wellington against Canterbury at Hagley Oval. Batting at No. 5, Abbas scored a resilient 79 off 92 balls, anchoring Wellington’s innings after early setbacks.

Later in the same year, Muhammad made his T20 debut for Wellington in the Super Smash 2023-24 season against Otago, where Abbas showcased his attacking intent with a quickfire 32 off 21 balls.

Beyond his batting, Muhammad contributes as a left-arm medium-fast bowler. As Abbas continues to evolve, his journey serves as an inspiration, embodying the fusion of heritage, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence.
