Australian cricket’s fast-bowling future looks in safe hands with the emergence of Callum Vidler, a teenage quick from Queensland whose raw pace and natural aggression have already made seasoned domestic batters take notice.

A product of Brisbane Grammar School and Valley District Cricket Club, he showed early signs of potential with his ability to generate sharp bounce and movement at a lively pace.

Vidler’s first major breakthrough came on the international stage during the 2023 Youth Ashes in England, where he led Australia’s bowling attack with hostility and precision. His performances carried into the 2024 ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he finished among the tournament's top five leading wicket-takers with 14 scalps in six games.

Later, in March 2024, Vidler made his Sheffield Shield debut for Queensland, and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact. In just his third match, he bowled a match-defining spell in the Shield 2024-25 final against South Australia, taking 4/64 in the first innings. His List A debut came in February 2025 against New South Wales. 

Standing tall at over six feet, Vidler regularly clocks above 140 km/h and is known for his aggressive approach. At such a young age, he has clocked over 150 km/h on a few occasions. 

Many experts think that the 2005-born pacer can be fast-tracked into the national side soon. However, he needs to stay fit as the bowler suffered a stress fracture ahead of the Australia A tour of India in September 2025. 

The Queensland pacer hasn’t made his Big Bash debut yet, but has been signed by the Brisbane Heat for the 2025-26 season.
