Player Bio

In the modern age of scouting cricketers, Suyash Sharma has to be one of the prominent finds for the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise.

Born in North East Delhi's Bhajanpura area, Suyash developed a catchy bowling action under the training of childhood coach Suresh Batra. He was a regular member of the Madras Club and participated in various DDCA club cricket competitions. As he grew up and participated in the hierarchy-level domestic competitions, the leg-spinner started making waves with his blissful performance.

It took the majority of the cricketing fraternity by surprise when KKR bid for the youngster ahead of the 2023 IPL auction and snared him at a base price of INR 20 lakhs. The 21-year-old scalped a three-fer on debut, conceding 30 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. This led to an 81-run triumph for KKR, and Suyash achieved the second-best bowling figures by a spinner on IPL debut.

Mostly utilised as an impact substitute, Suyash bagged 10 wickets in the season from 11 games at an economy of 8.23. On most occasions, he played the role of a supportive third spinner along with the likes of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy.

His standout IPL performance caved into a domestic debut for Delhi on October 17, 2023. Right after, he appeared for the State in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, making his debut against Bihar and returning with figures of 9-1-19-3. The young gun also claimed his first T20 fifer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy of the same domestic year, against Madhya Pradesh.

Following his outstanding domestic numbers, Suyash failed to gleam with the ball in a couple of outings for KKR in 2024. With Varun and Narine syncing well as a pair, the defending champions stuck to their winning formula more often than not, leaving out the leggie. He was released ahead of the next year’s mega auction and RCB chanced upon the Delhi spinner for INR 2.6 Crore.

The Men in Red and Gold lacked a reliable spinner in IPL 2024 and Suyash will be eyeing to fill the void and take responsibility for the franchise in IPL 2025.
