Player Bio

Sufiyan Muqeem is an emerging left-arm wrist spinner from Pakistan, making waves with his exceptional talent and control. He represents Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League and plays domestically for the Dolphins.

Muqeem made his List A debut for Pakistan A against the UAE in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in July 2023.

He immediately showcased his potential, delivering an impressive spell of 3/36 in 8.5 overs. His brilliance continued throughout the tournament, and in the final against India A, he picked up 3/66, playing a key role in Pakistan A’s championship victory.

His standout performances in domestic and List A cricket soon earned him a national call-up.

Muqeem was named in Pakistan’s squad for the Asian Games 2023, and on October 3, 2023, he made his T20I debut against Hong Kong. Once again, he shone on debut, returning remarkable figures of 4/11 in 4 overs, including a maiden.

Unfortunately, in January 2024, he suffered a setback and had to undergo surgery on his left knee.

However, setbacks only fueled his determination.

Muqeem made history in December 2024, when he registered the best bowling figures by a Pakistani in T20Is. Playing against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, he dismantled the opposition with a breathtaking spell of 5 wickets for just 3 runs in 2.4 overs. This record-breaking performance also made him the world record holder for the fewest runs conceded in a men’s T20I five-wicket haul.

Muqeem’s impact was undeniable, and soon after his T20 heroics, he was selected for the 50-over format. He made his ODI debut against South Africa on December 3, 2024, in Johannesburg, where he once again proved his mettle, taking 4 wickets in 8 overs.

With 16 wickets in just 9 T20Is, Muqeem has already built an impressive resume. His ability to bamboozle batters with his mystery spin makes him one of Pakistan’s most exciting young talents, and he is undoubtedly a bowler to watch out for in the years ahead.
