Player Bio

A tall, right-arm fast seamer from Canberra, raised through Wollongong and Sydney, Iain Carlisle has shown that patience and persistence can open doors—even in highly competitive state squads.

Carlisle first made waves in New South Wales Under-17 and Under-19 competitions. He featured for NSW Metro and performed strongly in various national youth tournaments. Yet opportunities at home were limited. Deciding to chase those chances, he relocated to Tasmania ahead of the 2019-20 season, securing a rookie contract with the Tigers.

The 2000-born pacer made his first-class debut in March 2023, while his List A debut came a month earlier. After spending time in the ranks, learning under veterans like Jackson Bird and Peter Siddle and working with bowling coach Rob Cassell, Carlisle finally had his breakthrough in the 2023-24 Sheffield Shield season. During the back end of the season, he claimed 20 wickets in just four matches, helping Tasmania reach the Shield Final.

Though he has yet to make his Big Bash League debut, he was signed by the Hobart Hurricanes and then re-signed on a two-year deal in 2024. "I'm looking forward to hopefully breaking into the starting XI in the coming season while helping bring success to the organisation and our Hurricanes fans," Carlisle said in an interview.

Off the field, Carlisle is very conscious about conserving water and practices it in his daily routine.

With those qualities, combined with his physical attributes and recent performances, Iain Carlisle looks set to be a serious fast-bowling option for Tasmania across formats.
