Player Bio

Connor Esterhuizen is a right-handed top-order batter steadily making a name for himself in South African domestic cricket. Growing up in Johannesburg, he developed a love for the game, playing in local clubs and backyard nets with friends and family.

A product of the Johns College, Esterhuizen became part of the Lions set-up at a very young age. Esterhuizen first drew attention during provincial age-group competitions, consistently finishing among the top scorers for his team.

The 2001-born opening batter's List A debut came in March 2022, while the first-class debut came next year.

A surprise came in February 2023 for the Johannesburg youngster as he was signed by Abu Dhabi Knight Riders to play for them in the 2023 International League T20 tournament. A few months later, he was signed by the MI Cape Town for the SA20 league. He again played for the same franchise in the following season but joined hands with the Pretoria Capitals for the 2025/26 season.

“Just being a part of SA20 was an unbelievable experience. It allowed me to soak up everything like a sponge. And get to learn from the best of the best,” Esterhuizen said in an interview about the experience he gained from playing in the SA20 league.

With consistent performances in domestic competitions, the Lions batter is steadily positioning himself as a young batter to watch, with the potential to step up to franchise cricket and, eventually, higher honours in South Africa’s cricketing setup.
