Player Bio

William Salzmann is an Australian cricketer who has steadily progressed through the national pathway system to establish himself at the senior domestic level. A right-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, Salzmann represents New South Wales in domestic cricket and is part of the Brisbane Heat squad for the 2025–26 Big Bash League season.

Salzmann first came into the professional setup when he signed a rookie contract with the New South Wales in May 2022, a reward for his consistent performances in junior and representative cricket. Later that year, he represented Australia at the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean, where he emerged as Australia’s leading wicket-taker. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball played a key role in Australia’s run to the semi-finals and highlighted his potential as a genuine all-round option.

He made his List A debut for New South Wales on 23 September 2022 against Victoria. Salzmann made an immediate impact, taking a wicket with his third delivery in professional cricket by dismissing Mackenzie Harvey. His calm transition into senior cricket continued over the following seasons, and in November 2023, while still a teenager, he produced another standout performance in the Marsh One-Day Cup. Salzmann claimed four wickets against Western Australia, helping New South Wales secure a notable victory and further underlining his growing reliability at the state level.

Salzmann’s red-ball breakthrough came in the opening round of the 2025–26 Sheffield Shield season when he made his first-class debut against Western Australia on 4 October 2025. In a match that tested temperament and technique, he top-scored for New South Wales in both innings, making 43 and 72, as his side went on to win by 74 runs. The performance showcased his composure with the bat and his ability to handle responsibility early in his first-class career.

With strong under-19 credentials, impactful performances in List A cricket, and a promising first-class debut, William Salzmann continues to build a solid foundation in Australian domestic cricket.
