Salil Arora is a wicketkeeper-batter from Punjab who gained national attention after a remarkable domestic season that showcased his power-hitting ability. 

A right-handed batter capable of accelerating rapidly while also keeping wickets, he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1.5 crore at the IPL 2026 auction. 

His rise reflects the modern role of Indian keepers — adaptable across formats and capable of finishing games in T20 cricket.

Salil Arora’s Early Life and Background

Salil Arora was born on November 7, 2002, in Amritsar, Punjab, into a business family. His father, Rakesh Kumar, who had played district-level cricket, noticed his interest early and encouraged him to train seriously, while his mother, Seema, supported his routine.

His introduction to structured cricket came unexpectedly when he tried practice nets inside a shopping mall at around 12 years of age. The experience sparked a deeper interest and soon led him to regular coaching sessions at Gandhi Ground in Amritsar. He studied at DAV International School and later DAV College while balancing education with training.

Under coaches Rajan Gill and Rahul Sharma, he developed aggressive batting instincts along with solid wicketkeeping skills. His early breakthrough came in junior cricket when he scored heavily in the Cooch Behar Trophy, helping Punjab win the tournament and earning selection to India’s Under-19 squad for the 2019 ACC Youth Asia Cup.

Salil Arora’s Domestic Career

Salil Arora’s First-Class debut came on October 18, 2024, against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy at New Chandigarh, and it immediately stood out. Walking in with Punjab struggling at 154/7, Arora produced a composed 101 off 210 balls to rescue the innings and was named Player of the Match. 

The knock established his temperament in longer cricket, and he soon became a regular middle-order batter and wicketkeeper for the side.

Arora’s T20 debut arrived on December 5, 2024, against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Saurashtra, where he had a quiet start. 

A year later, however, the same tournament transformed his reputation. On December 12, 2025, against Jharkhand, he smashed a 39-ball century and finished unbeaten on 125 off 45 balls — an innings that quickly became one of the defining knocks of the season and accelerated his rise into franchise cricket.

Salil Arora made his List A debut for Punjab on December 24, 2025, against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Jaipur. His first outing was brief, but he later contributed useful runs in the tournament, including an unbeaten innings against Uttarakhand that helped Punjab reach the knockout stages. Even in the early phase of his 50-over career, he showed the ability to balance aggression with strike rotation.

The tournament established him as a destructive middle-order batter capable of dominating bowlers in the death overs, accelerating his path to the IPL.

Salil Arora’s IPL Career

Salil Arora entered the IPL 2026 auction with a base price of INR 30 lakh, but his record-breaking Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy performances triggered strong interest. After a bidding contest, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured him for INR 1.5 crore, making him one of their notable uncapped Indian acquisitions.

Within the squad, he provides a wicketkeeping option and a potential middle-order finisher suited to aggressive T20 batting plans. His high strike-rate approach aligns with Hyderabad’s attacking philosophy, and he also links up with fellow Punjab cricketers already in the setup.

For Arora, the IPL marks the transition from domestic standout to performing under global scrutiny, offering the platform to test his power-hitting against top-level bowling.
