Every season of the Nepal Premier League brings with it a storyline of opportunity — and for Sumit Maharajan, the 2025 campaign has become exactly that. Born on 1 January 2001, Sumit is a right-handed top-order batter whose game is built on timing, temperament, and the ability to soak up pressure. Now wearing the colours of the Lumbini Lions, he enters the season with a point to prove and the perfect stage to do it.

Sumit first came into the public attention during his stint with the Kathmandu Gorkhas, where he showcased glimpses of his potential in domestic competitions. While he was still shaping his identity as a batter, what stood out was his calmness at the crease — a quality that sets apart reliable top-order players from the rest. He isn’t the kind of batter who swings wildly; instead, he builds his innings with method and keeps the scoreboard moving with neat strokes through the gaps.

His move to the Lumbini Lions came about unexpectedly. When Bibek Kumar Yadav was ruled out due to injury, the Lions needed someone dependable, composed, and capable of anchoring the early overs. Sumit fit the role perfectly. With domestic experience under his belt and an approach suited for both consolidation and acceleration, he arrived as a ready-made solution rather than just an emergency replacement.
